They must have just canned them then as I was offered the choice of petrol or Diesel 6 weeks ago

Probably 2018 models as the diesels weren't included in the 2019 pricing and model announcement back in December.

        • Hi all, long time no post here on VWW.

My partner is looking at buying a second hand Alltrack. Budget somewhere between 25–30K. A quick scan of carsales indicates that should get her a 2017 7.5 132TSI base model. I'm a bit out of the loop on specs, so if anyone can let me know the difference between the base and premium models. She's a bit no frills and would generally choose cheaper over higher spec, she's not too fussed on leather seats, for example.

Next question, are there any issues to keep in mind? Is the 6spd DSG problematic like it can be on other older models, or has VW pretty much sorted that all out now?

I assume the 4motion would be Haldex V, or maybe even something later?

          TIA

          Liam

              • Hi Guys, I'm considering purchasing a new Alltrack but they don't do the diesel anymore. I'd love a GTI but the wife says we need a family friendly car and the R wagon is too $$. How does the 132tsi compare to the 135tdi? I like the idea of a small tune for a bit of extra oomph but have seen through this thread the 135tdi handles it better with the stronger DSG.

If I purchased a second hand 2018 135tdi is there anything in particular to look out for? Are the 2017 and 2018 models covered by the now 5 year warranty or still at 3 years? If it's 3 years can you upgrade to factory 5 year at a cost?

Your answer may lie in a Skoda Octavia VRs wagon or hatch which is a GTI when you have to be family friendly. (New, petrol only, used diesel + petrol)

It's 95% of what a GTi is - same 2.0tsi engine, The "good" DSG 6 speed, Golf running gear, more features toys, cheaper, some say better made. 590L of boot space in the hatch; 610L in the wagon (that's to the top of the seat).

I wanted a Golf GT Sport when I was buying but the Octavia beat it on features and price.

I've had my Octavia 11 years and it still makes me smile when I drive it.

Thank you for your thoughts Brad. I'm pretty keen on the Golf and don't like the look of any of the Skoda range.

Pretty sure they’re running with the even better 7 speed wet clutch now

I am a fan of the 7 speed it handles way more torque than the 6 speed and it does not hang on like grim death in sport mode or change up to quick in drive like the 6 speed does the only downside is it changes up to quick from 1st to 2nd in very slow traffic i just use manual mode and the paddles to keep it from slipping the clutch to much in 2nd when crawling along other than that minor issue its a great gearbox

For the most fun use the paddles tho

I would go a 2018 second hand premium diesel to get the led lights and other goodies over a 2019 petrol get a tune on it and its a amazing motor strong willing to rev the torque between 2 to 3k will put a smile on your face and from 3 to 4 it just takes off

I get 7.3 around town and 6.1 on the highway with elastic band type acceleration the torque just slingshots you
1st and 2nd are a little to short to really enjoy it unless you boot it but 3rd and 4th are a wall of overtaking torque and smiles 5th as well but thats like 130k+ so yeah at your own risk there (must admit to giving it a try on my recent trip and all i have to say is i wish we had a autobahn here so i could enjoy that rush of torque all the time)

The wagon is also great i was a hatch man but will never own a hatch again ( i hope) just so easy to cart **** around
Great car love mine to bits hope they have something similar when i upgrade
P.S get a set of paddle shifter extenders you won't regret it

P.M me if you want more info or if your in Melbourne a test drive

                        Good hunting Crowz

Agree about the one downside. Feels like it’s slurring at low speed. Bit worried about clutch slip as that’s what it feels like.

But that’s small compared to the improvements to sport mode, wow soooo good!!!

I’d be more worried about purchasing secondhand TSI than TDI.

                              Why is that?

The TDI long term reliability is much better than the TSI, in any model.
