Has anyone fitted a factory (Westfalia) towbar recently?

My 2018 135TDI was fitted with the VW towbar, but it's not the swing-up towball jobbie the Europeans get. Can I help you?

Following on from a previous query, the sun-roof on the 135TDI does let a lot of heat into the car, so much so that my wife refused to ride in it on a hot day until I fixed it. I suggested that I could probably swap it for an Audi Allroad without a sunroof for about another $30,000, but she wasn't too interested. A happy compromise was reached by cutting up one of those silver covered pleated sun shields you can get for $20 from Super Cheap, and sliding it between the sunroof and the sunblind, with the pleats running lengthwise to give the sun shield a bit of stiffness. I left about 20mm hanging out of the front into the cabin to assist with fitting and removal. It works pretty well, and the Missus is happy.

Thanks but I am after information on the proper VW factory towbar. The one they sell here is a "Betta" from NZ.

Collected my19 Alltrack Premium with sound and vision option.Colour Tungsten silver,aftermarket tint.
Didn't want sunroof as just something to go wrong.
Having problem as unable to remove dipstick.
Having first monthly check so will report it then.

What are people’s opinions on roofracks? To mount 1-2 carbon road bikes on Thule bike carriers.

I like the idea of the Thule wingbar edge. Low profile. But a local roof rack store is suggesting the sunroof gets in the way.

If that’s the case. What’s the lowest profile / least intrusive cross bars? What do people like/use/ have?

The VW brand ones I saw at the dealer seemed very tall??

Thule wingbar evo? What have people purchased??

Hi I'm trading my car so I'm getting rid of all my extra stuff I have a set of whisper roof racks I'm happy to sell for half of what I paid.


Also if anyone is interested I have a full size spare with a brand new tyre on a 18inch Alltrack Sports Luxury Wheel.

I think the VW ones are tall as they also have to have clearance for cars with the sunroof. If you don't have the sunroof, the low profile ones will be fine.

The Golf rails are the more traditional ones sitting up higher.
