  • And the 17s will take snow chains. Chains aren't recommended for the optional 18s.

          • Hi all, how is everyone experience on tyres? Looking to go either 235/35r19 or 235/40r19, please comment on the size and tyres recommended? Always been with conti, and from experience, they offer good grip dry and wet plus long lasting (my last 3 sets both last more than 30000km, with once a year track day), but read so many other comparison lately, i m a bit unsure and tempted to try other brands! Thanks all!

            • Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres (4S not just 4) are the new sweet spot in high performance tyres. Almost as good grip as Sport Cup 2 tyres but quicker warm up for grip, better tyre life and cheaper than PSC2 and about the same price as Contis. Exceptional tyre that you cant go wrong with

                    • How is everyone feeling on the mode selector? I tested sport mode and normal, basically there is no difference in performance n fuel economy...

Well, how did you ‘test’ it? Performance mode does not magically increase the engine output. It will change the shift points for the transmission (basically, hold a lower gear for longer, shift down earlier etc). Not sure about the golf, but on the Passat Alltrack Wolfsburg (adaptive suspension etc) it also changes the damper calibration, steering feel, ACC, and climate control intervention (sacrifices the aircon compressor cutting-in when larger accelerator applications are made for example).

The point being to make the car ‘feel’ more responsive - but it wont make it any faster.
                          Cheers

DSG mode? I do between D and S for sure. Car feels quicker due to changes in shifting and will use a smidge more fuel due to higher revs.

For the driving profiles, not so much. Just the feel of the drive as they really only change the steering, dampeners and sound. Sport mode does allow for a more aggressive Adaptive cruise control profile, so the car is harder on the braking and acceleration.
For me I find the biggest impact just comes from me. If I drive hard in normal the car lets me just as it would in sport. If I'm a granny in sport the car goes along with me (assuming I switch the DSG to D as well)

Eco mode is the exception as enables E mode for the DSG which allows the car to shift into N to coast, up shifts much earlier and downshifts quite late, so feels much slower. it also limits convenience consumers like Air Con and some lighting options. I think it also disables the soundaktor to encourage you to drive in a boring eco friendly manner. Again it's how you drive that really determines economy. Eco mode just helps that little bit more.

Wow, under a blanket of snow suits an Alltrack IMO.

                            • I do like the change from D to S with the dsg especially as i have had mine tuned its better in d and perfect in sport still takes the throttle into consideration but prod the throttle and whoosh your into the correct gear to slam into the corner
The only way to make this car better is to put the golf r motor in it
Untill then i will ride the torque

                              • Thanks for the input, i test it via driving the same route and same style, and i found no difference in performance, such as engine response, shift pattern (driving both mode with dsg in d mode), cant even feel difference in steering weight...
