I have noticed it is not on some / not all the wagons on carsales !
May be the case they think I may want to change to Euro plates so have kept it there for its intended protective purpose ... could have at least asked me. I could always tell them to remove at the first tyre kick service. Thanks Rooboy.
Yup they are quicker than you think
Also if you replace the rear swaybar and linkages they handle excellent as well

There are a couple of perforations on each side to adjust to various width plates. You can see them on the black car in your pictures. The foam just peels off. I found that rolling it off by pushing it along works best. Then some citrus cleaner to get rid of any remaining stickyness
Hi guys, noticed that the Alltrack has the foamy rear number plate backing as well - if you left your standard plates on as opposed to wasting $400 to get bigger Euro plates, how did you go about getting rid of the excess backing ? Does it just peel off ?
Joining the Golf Alltrack family very soon! Delivery sometime in early/mid-Nov 18.
Shoutout to both kachinggg & Rooboy for posting stuff around their cars - saved me quite a bit of time on researching.
Rooboy, would you happen to have have the steps on enabling Light Assist (auto high beam) on the Alltrack?
I found the steps in AutoInstruct (for Mk2 Tiguans) & R-Line High Beam (Tiguan).. Though they're all on the MQB platform, they should work in theory.
I thought there wasn't a difference between Dynamic Light Assist and Light Assist!
I haven't worked on OBDEleven before, but I think it will be straightforward.
Things I'm intending to change/activate via OBDEleven when I get the Alltrack:
5 x Indicator Soft Touch
Active Info Display Theme Changes
Auto Daylight Savings Time Change
DRL Option in MIB
Easy Seat Entry & Exit
Fan Speed in A/C Auto Mode
Heated Seat Memory
Lap Timer Activation
Light Assist (High Beam Assist)
Live Traffic
Refuel Amount in Cluster
Traffic Sign Recognition
Just been for a drive through the refton spur can confirm a tuned diesel alltrack will munch a stock gti
Drive was heaps of fun lots of good blokes

Congrats on the purchase! What colour did you order?
I'm guessing yours should be a MY19 which means there might be some variances in coding due to possible hardware/software upgrades in the update but most on your list should be easily doable.

I got Tornado Red! I’m attracted to that shade of red for some reason. I’ve got a similar colour on one of my guitars.
The difference is, unlike yourself and Kachingg, mine’s the 132TSI Premium. It’s fully optioned as well, so I’m looking forward to it!
Especially when I’m currently driving a Corolla, it’s a major step up. I don’t know how I’ll ever look back.
Funny story about the red - I brought my partner to the showroom to show her the difference in cars (she doesn’t have much interest), and she pointed out the reds were nice.. especially the car with the red stitching in the interior.
I may be lucky with owning a GTI without too much complaints from her in the future. Hehe.
Regarding coding - I’m hoping it wouldn’t be too different. OBDEleven seems quite easy to operate.. except I have absolutely no idea what long coding does, but the steps are beginning to make sense.
Most of the changes are toggle switches, luckily enough. By the way, thanks for the response. Appreciate it.
And yes, they confirmed it’s the MY19 model. Note to some guys out there - DAP was a “standard” on my model. It’s not on the website configurator, but was in the dealer’s system as standard.
Infotainment package is called “sound & vision” now just like the Tiguan. (This is in the contract)
I’ve been observing that VAG planned this out - where they designed the MQB platform and “bled” features out slowly.
Like Emergency Assist debuted on the Arteon, then it came standard on the Golf earlier this year.

Well done you will love it to bits it,s been 14 months ownership for me and it still puts a smile on my face driving it
Also great pick on the color red is the best for this car just looks premium (personal bias might apply here )
Have you considered a aftermarket paint protection? Unfortunately red is the easiest to fade/mark with bird poo ect
Keep us updated on your new baby Rooboy and i will be glad to help if you need anything
Enjoy mate

Kachingg, thanks for your response.
I've been keeping an eye on your Golf Alltrack. I love the fact that within the first week of purchase, you've changed quite a bit of things.. And got to know what Pomponazzi was!
When I was looking through the options list, I had you in mind, and ended up ticking all of the boxes.
The first time I tested ACC was in a Passat last year (and again in an Arteon earlier this year ), and was amazed by it.
I didn't want to forgo that as an option on the Alltrack.
I did consider aftermarket paint protection. Was thinking of Ceramic Pro.
But the dealership tossed it in as a freebie, and I caved in primarily because I wouldn't have the time to get the car sent in to a separate detailer to get it done.
I hope I don't regret the decision I made.
Looking forward to the delivery!
I remember I tested a bunch of Golfs vs other brands (Subarus, Mazdas, etc.) ..
For some odd reason, VW was the only that lingered in my thoughts.
I ended up with the Alltrack mainly because of the wet clutch DSG. I was a bit skeptical of the dry clutch DSGs, and have a feeling the design of dry clutches works very well in Europe's climate, but not in Australia due to the heat. Especially in NSW, it may be hotter up on this side over summer (global warming isn't helping either).
Thanks to you, I was also considering APR Stage 1 as well. ..
Maybe sometime down the track after I get used to the Alltrack, and if I ever develop a heavy right foot..
Based on my driving style, I don't foresee myself owning a performance vehicle, or modifying this vehicle to a performance level.
And if I do, I have my eyes on an 1988 Alfa Romeo 75 3.0 v6..... and mod the Alltrack as well!
Also, thanks for the lead on the PD Paddle Shifter Extension @ Leyo Motorsport. Got myself a pair.
Other things I'm going to change outside of OBDEleven:
- Paddle Shifters Extension
- Replacing fog lights from halogen to LED bulbs. (I'd like the fog lamps + headlights to match)
- -> By the way, do you guys happen to know how this will behave with the static cornering lights? With the halogen bulbs, it'll fade whenever the static cornering lights kick in.
I know some LEDs are dimmable, but I'm not sure if it'll work similarly to the halogen bulbs (having the fading effect would be really nice).
I've heard in some cases the system will complain if LED fog light bulbs are fitted.
I'll find out eventually when I swap it.
- Replacing cargo interior lights to CANbus-compatible LED.
- Scrolling blinkers on the wing mirrors. (Still considering to replace the mirror caps. Silver over red is.. weird)
Funniest thing right now - I've got everything except the car.
Estimated to be up to 4 weeks to go.. Cargo ship's approaching Perth sometime next Tuesday.
PS. Found out how to attach pictures.. So meet the task board I've set up in Trello. I captured all of the OBDEleven steps & procedures required for the change.
Now that I know how to attach photos, I'll share some shots when the car arrives, and possibly the work I'll do on it?
Newish Alltrack owner here... bought in June and done about 2500kms so far. Got the MY18 132TSI premium in white with all options.
Coming from a MY15 WRX and then a MY16 GTi (manual) I’m thinking the Alltrack is the best car I’ve owned. Super practical, refined and just a pleasure to drive. Even took it light offroading on some dirt tracks up central coast NSW and it performed amazingly.
Strange omissions for me are the lack of blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert which are available on overseas models and other MK7.5 models in the range...
Also fuel economy could be better but hoping that’s just as the car is still breaking in.
Overall love the car and will actively check/follow this thread to see how everyone else is going with theirs.
Well done i had to wait for mine 2 drove everyone mad i think talking about it
You will end up changing the mirror caps the silver on red is just odd works on the rest of the car but for some reason the mirror caps just look odd black carbon fibre is the way to go there for sure
I have been considering the scrolling wing mirror indicators but by all reports they are a bit weak in the daylight and i am still sulking over no scrolling taillights in the wagons so binned the idea of the wing mirrors without matching rears bit of a dummy spit i admit
You will go stage 1 for sure the improvement is just so good it has changed the car for me from being great to excellent you only live once after all
If you like cornering i can recommend the rear swaybar and linkages upgrade changes how the car reacts in corners instead of understeer its nice and neutral i was pushing a gti the other day in the twisties lots of fun
Not sure about the led fog lights let me know how it goes (might be a new upgrade for me if it works well)
What color paddle shifters did you get?
The dealership paint protection is a cheap spray on they use its ok car will look nice and glossy for a year or 2 but it will not protect against bird poo and sap ect so make sure you clean it off quick
I love acc as well just be mindful that on a long downhill run it will use the back brakes to keep your car at the set speed so rear brake pad replacement may come up sooner than you think i just deactivate mine and let it coast except when i am lazy lol
Hope the big day comes soon
