I prefer these on something less 'aggressive' than a GTI - they're definitely a cross sports/luxury wheel and a reminder that VW until recently did do great OEM wheels.

These were fitted on early pics of the R Line wagons doing the rounds (one of the early pics in this thread in fact) and I thought that car was set off just right:
