Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

When my brother drove it, he got 13.4, when I did it, I got high 13s into 14s (yes I suck at launching) I'll try again on a less packed day maybe after I get the intake installed.

          • Thought I would just share my excitement with you guys. Finally picked up my pure white GTI yesterday. Was real surprised with the delivery. Only took 2 weeks to come in. From reading the threads on here I thought it would come in a couple of months. But anyways real happy and absolutely love the drive (especially at night )

I'm glad you're loving the car hayzie, did you get the Xenons with it as well?

Unfortunately I didn't end up getting the xenons. I opted for the black Motorsport wheels to create that white on black look. The dealer exchanged these free of charge which leaves me questioning if I came out second best with that deal. It would have been nice to get the xenons but tried to keep the price down as low as possible. Although in saying that I find myself wanting to buy plates now (at least euro as I am not a fan of the stock QLD ones) and am looking for a good quality paint protection. I started worrying about not getting any protection through the dealer as a bird left a very small present while at the beach today. Damn.

                • I just did a 300km+ journey down south with the family and I have to say the GTI performed very well. It was surprisingly compliant over country roads and very easy to drive for long distances. A minor complaint would be the road noise from the tires on some rougher bitumen but nothing that would drive me nuts.

The boot swallowed a suitcase, supplies and a golf bag easily.

The power was great for pulling into fast flowing traffic (and fun). We also got great fuel economy 6-7l/100km.

                  Love this little car.

                  • Just returned home from 5 nights up north, unlocked my GTI PP this morning and turned the key to sweet sound of nothing... Called roadside assist, battery checked out fine but the young fella couldn't figure out how to release the gear lever and ended up removing the little yellow tab underneath the gear lever boot. Radio worked, headlights worked along with a few other little things.

Anyway, finally got it on the back of the truck and off it's gone to VW for inspection. Not happy as the car is only 4 months old with 5000 odd km's.. Has anyone else heard of this? I tried starting it with my spare key but nothing happened either.

                    • That's certainly a concern. Please let us know the diagnosis when you find out

                      • I have had my GTI PP for nearly 4 months, and have done around 2800km, about a month into ownership I noticed a metallic sounding 'rattle' when accelerating under load coming the engine bay. Soliatre had the car for a day and believed the sound was from the gearbox. They took diagnostic readings and sent them off to VW Aust, when I picked the car up they informed me they just received a response from VW Aust - replace with new gearbox and metatronic unit! Hats of to VW Aust, maybe they are finally getting the message.

Today I picked up my GTI with its new gearbox and associated components. So far in the limited driving today, it sounds a lot quieter.
I also have been experiencing another intermittent rattle from behind the instrument cluster, - sounds like a Geiger counter, really annoying, said that was from a loose plenum chamber. Being intermittent I won't know if it is fixed.

That said I'm back at the dealer tomorrow morning, upon reassembling the subframe, somehow my steering wheel is now offset, hopefully a quick adjustment to the tie rods should sort it out. Also, I noticed my air box is all scratched up from their tools, guess I should get that replaced too- sounds pedantic, but it went in without a mark on it.

do you get that mostly when coasting? Was it them or you that said it was a loose plenum chamber?

                          • Had my new GTI (June) in to fix the trim on the rear window, which was detaching. Service guy who signs you in saw that mine was a manual, and said - oh these are rare, most are auto these days- you wont be having any of those DSG issues.

                            Hmmmm

I would get it around 2500rpm under acceleration - I posted a you tube clip in the R tread.
They said it was the plenum chamber. Because it is intermittent I won't know for sure if it fixed.

I had a 7sp dsg on my Audi, nothing but trouble, 2 clutch packs and metatronic unit, under 30,000km.
