Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I agree, no one here would do it, my only point was that 18s would fit easily as even 17s have been shown to be ok

    • Manual Mk7 Golf GTI's must be selling like hot cakes in Melbourne.

Two different dealers have quoted me their best drive away price as $41,990 (full wack RRP) + ORD (inc. $2495 dealer delivery).

I think I'll wait until these cakes cool down a bit

Have you gone in and been prepared to sign or just done a ring around?

Better prices come when they know you're ready to deal.. having said that, I don't know the Melbourne market. If it is behaving like that the easy solution is to pick one up interstate instead. PM me if get bored waiting for your cake and want to consider SA.

The Mk7 definitely rides a lot better than its predecessor but the 18s will always ride better. You'd be buying the PP if you planned to track and wanted the tricky diff or from now on wanted xenons. If I'd gone for one I probably would have stayed on 19s and just bought some decent wheels.
Went down to the tracks a few times with the my pp, many people are amazed with the time it achieved. My friend who drives an m3 is also surprised why the car is faster than his.

When buying my Mk6, had one dealer tell me "no discounts" then when they called on an update and I mentioned I got it cheaper elsewhere, they said they would have done a deal. Same salesperson and only a couple of days apart (mid-month).

Sour grapes from this dealer who misses out on all the after-sales business you would have given them, had they played the game professionally and offered you an incentive to open your wallet when you first approached them. I've had a similar experience myself.

For those that don't flick through the wheel thread here's another yellow example - with black OZs: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ml#post1061202

That SF mob tagged in Lemonskins pic are a German specialist in wraps - if you're bored google their work, some eye catching stuff. Again in the wheel thread there's an orange Mk7 GTI by them with black Talladegas and a Mk6 style rear diffuser with central pipes: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ml#post1059444
Yikes, that's a little chartreuse for my liking. I'd prefer matte sunflower yellow... Only thing is it would cost a fortune!

                      • I just noticed that the Comfort and Highline versions get the "Driver Fatigue Detection System" which i assume is the Lane assistance.
Annoyed we didn't get this option as well in the GTI...

Nah its a separate system to Lane Assist (which is a camera unit mounted next to the rain light sensor). Driver fatigue uses steering wheel sensors, this Octavia video explains it rather well (same system in the golf of course).

Either way, wonder why the GTI didn't get it.

I don't care for any of that or the DAP stuff but my understanding was it was fitted on all GTIs, pretty sure it is in the brochures. I could be completely wrong too though.
