Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Down in Geelong the dealer had a DSG GTI with only the $500 paint option for about $48,600 including on the roads.
A GTI PP sold a few weeks ago for $54,000+driveaway,while a Golf R(DSG) no options had a driveaway price of just under $60,000.
The GTI PP Price Vs the Golf R price(no options in both cars) to me,seems too close and if I could stretch it,I would definitely go for the Golf R.

    • Wow, so it does seem that GTI cars are selling above RRP.

      I'm in the wrong business

If a dealer can find someone silly enough to pay full rrp then credit to them - more discount for the rest of us, but I would love to see proof that a dealer has actually sold a car at over rrp. $48600 with paint sounds about right for rrp but that car can be had for less, and I wouldn't pay $54k for a PP driveaway much less plus on roads.

If these are the deals being presented to you then let me organise one at less than rrp and I'll take my cut from the additional savings.

Given that according to the VW website the RRP for this car is $41,990 was the salesman trying me on or are on-road costs more than I think?
A drive away price consist of car's price (MRP) + ORC + dealer delivery.

On Road Cost = stamp duty, rego

So yes, it adds up when you put those on top of MRP, but hopefully with some negotiations, you can bring it down a with thousand dollars.

          • Circumstances at the moment have prevented me from initiating negotiations much less taking a test drive of the GTI or the Golf R but there would be NO WAY I would pay the listed driveaway prices for either car!
Towards the end of June I will be in a position to take a trip down to my local dealer and I'll see what transpires in price, most likely for a Golf R.

            • Question would the normal GTI wheels (18") fit on the GTI performance? Even though it has larger brakes...

Yep. But the 19's are not as bad as you think. It is like riding on a pillow in my PP on comfort setting compared to my MY12 POLO GTI.

Oh and you should aim for
                    RRP + options - 10% + onroads = final sale price.

                    It is possible.

Is more Lego-brick yellow than lemon skin, but I like it!
How does the wrap process work?

And the same applies to the R, which has the same brake package as the GTI-PP. While 17 inch wheels with 225/45 R17 tyres will fit, I wouldn't imagine there being too many going down this path in Oz.

                          Do it!

Although I'd be mimicking this GTI and using the black on the mirror caps. And consider where you might want to go with the wheels as well - you'll want black or at least a plastidip/powdercoat option if you're still looking at doing this.

The wrap is fairly straight forward, pick your color and have it applied, and when you're bored have it removed.

That's a pretty fair formula, and totally possible at the right time and right place (ref my post with copy of invoice).

The Mk7 definitely rides a lot better than its predecessor but the 18s will always ride better. You'd be buying the PP if you planned to track and wanted the tricky diff or from now on wanted xenons. If I'd gone for one I probably would have stayed on 19s and just bought some decent wheels.
