Just can't compare the WRX to the GTI. The VW has far too much quality, class, all round performance, low down torque and European cred for a WRX. Subaru have lost their way since the halcyon days of being a world rally car for the road. I had many friends with WRX's and they were cool in your early to mid 20's but you soon got sick of them. Dad even had a bog standard WRX then an STi. Much better car with better brakes, engine (with NO torque down low then manic from about 3500-4000 revs) and 6 speed manual. Horrible terse ride though and then I introduced him to a GTI. Then had an R and now the new S3.
Simply cannot believe Subaru have gone to a CVT. What awful bloody things they are to drive. And very unsporting. Audi got rid of theirs I believe bit they weren't in sporting models. The outside looks like a 10 year EVO and the inside looks just like dad's STi from 10 or 15 years ago.
VW need to be VERY careful with their recent price increases though, particularly if Subie have dropped theirs. The Europeans have long since left the Japanese behind now with their overall package.
Anyone compared the stereo to the Mk 6 Dynaudio? Not so worried about the bass side of things. If it's as clear as the Dynaudio I'll be happy. I'll get another sub if I get an R (vs S3).
Yes, I have compared them - I've had a decent listen to the Discover in 2 GTIs (one with leather, one with cloth), and my Mk6 has an RNS-510 and Dynaudio.
The Discover Nav system is more than adequate for general listening, but is nothing like as bright or clear as the Dynaudio in the highs or the midrange. They're closest at the low end, where the Dynaudio system is fairly weak anyway.
I'm really disappointed that the Dynaudio option (or better) isn't available for the Mk7 in Australia, along with the Discover Pro. It's certainly a consideration in my purchasing decision.

I wanted Dynaudio too and was one of the reasons I went A250 way.

+1 on that. The Nav is a significant downgrade. I've engaged VWA who are interested in my feedback regarding this, however if I can't find a way to get the Discover Pro working by time my otherwise fully optioned wagon arrives, I will probably cancel the order - I'm not dropping that much coin on a new car with a substandard entertainment system.
I would have been very willing to tick both those options on the new car. Obviously our Australian dollars are no good in Germany!

They are in the Czech Republic though, Discover Pro and Audio upgrade in the Octavia. I can only assume VWA are waiting for the google streetview/traffic to come to our shores?
my last GTI (05 Mk5 with the 3 way front end/amp) shat all over the mk7, hence why i upgraded.
Originally i was going to get one of those OEM integration subs but they're very boomy sadly. I like my match system, will like it even more when i install my Rainbow Audio USA

I kinda hope that Skoda's gamble to go big with the Canton audio upgrade and the equivalent of Discover Pro 8" pays off and that it will send a message to VWA.
Had a look at the skoda Octavia RS today. Very nice car with an amazing entertainment system.... Biggest boot space... Seeing is believing! If I end up going down the practical more affordable path the RS is a top contender...

Did you take it for a test drive? Wonder if they've fixed the cabin vibration/rumble issues yet.
Keen to know what the Canton system is like with surround DVD-Audio...
