  • Ive got a MK7 GTI, and Ive had a ton of issues with it. Has anyone else experienced trouble with theirs? I would have upgraded to the upcoming model but now I very much doubt it...

    • Warranty issues with MK7 Golf GTI

      Hey guys,

Ive had a ton of issues with my 2 year old Golf GTI...

      - Thermostat (recurring)
      - Air con (leaked so bad footwells filled with water and carpets had to be replaced)
      - Suspension/Steering
      - Faulty electrics
      - Faulty clutch
      - Faulty media system (recurring issues with connectivity/freezing/static)

To name a few of the issues.

Keen to hear if anyone else has had issues or if anyone can offer me some mechanical advice?

          • Yep, I've had quite a few. Water pump replaced 3 times due to leak, fuel pump failed, electric window motor failed, and now the central locking has an issue.

            VW customer service is rubbish.

This is my first VW purchase, and it'll be my last. Can't wait to get rid of it.

            • Hi guys, I'm picking up an MY17 Mk7 GTI tomorrow. Night Blue, 6MT, no further options. Demo with 3000km on the clock. With tinting, picked it up for $39K driveaway. I was reasonably happy, knocked it down from $41K.

2 year extended VW warranty has been offered to me for $1600: yes or no?

              • Probably depends on how long you intend to keep your car or if you plan to modify it. Short tenure and many mods probably not. Longer ownership and keeping standard it might be useful. Subject to the above it may add a little value at sale time and some peace of mind for you as well. Sorry to sound like I'm fence sitting but I think it's a subjective decision. I went for the 5 year warranty as I am not planning significant mods to mine.

                • I didn't think the VW extended warranty could be offered once plates were on it. Check it's actually a VW one and not some BS dealer one..

You were right. The extended warranty offered to me was not an official VW factory warranty but an Allianz product which mirrors the VW factory warranty. It can be purchased at any time prior to the factory warranty expiry so I decided to leave it for now.

                    • Does anyone know what the weight distribution (front/rear) is on the Mk7 GTI?

                      • Allianz warranty is the best after-market one out there IMO. I had one on my Mk5GTI and used it a couple of times with no drama. Saved me a heap.

Even the "VW extended warranty" is actually an Allianz one (check the fine print and you will see that it isn't actually covered by VW, despite what it is marketed as). I took me over 3 months to get my Transporter gearbox fixed under my "VW extended factory warranty", and everything had to be approved by Allianz, not VW.

Yeah, I was reading through the PD just then. I have it available if I want it. But it doesn't look like it is a VW factory warranty.
Any idea if it is actually possible to get a genuine extended VW factory warranty? And if so, how?
I don't want the Allianz one also the VW extended warranty is just an insurance.

Hmm ok - I opted for it with my current Rline and was under the impression it was a 'VW' option. I'll be pretty annoyed if this is the case as I wouldn't have gone for it otherwise, and I certainly won't be opting for it on the R.

Where exactly does it say this?

It is essentially a insurance cover, not warranty. I have attached some screen shots of the policy:
