Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Same motor as in a 2.0TSI, but likely to run a Ko3 not the Ko4?

It's an EA888 (so, the 2.0 TSI engine in the Mk7 GTI and R), and I did read an article speculating it runs a K03 a few months back but can't find a reference to back that up at present.

Given it's tuned for 170kw, chances are it's the K03.

As the GTI and the R both use the same engine (not turbocharger) with detail differences, and the S3 engine is the R engine, I'd say it's fair to conclude that yes, they run the same engine.

            • Gti owners - what fuel do you put in the tank? When I picked mine up last week the sales person told me to always use 95, but on the fuel flap is says minimum of 95. Any of you using 98?

              • I personally wouldn't use 95 unless 98 was unavailable

                • I will be using BP 98 only.

                            • Well, that would be interesting in NZ. 98 is only available from selected BP outlets. 91 is standard here with 95 if you need premium. So, 9 out of 10 service stations would not stock fuel of this high RON.
