Also of note is an email I got from VWA today, stating that there will be no manual option in the GTD or GTI. DSG only!

The information I have received is the initial cars will either be standard or come with leather and roof. Happy to say I have a Carbon Steel secured and contract signed.

Why the hell pay $450 for metallic paint? Get a flat colour like white or red and save the $$$. When coming to sell, it makes no difference. The red and white were the most popular colours in the Mk6 so looks like most have woken up to this fact

Why do some people just think of resale? I buy the car for my enjoyment primarily, and keep it long enough where resale means diddly.

The contract has been drawn up using current GTI pricing with a subject to change clause. The dealer believes the realistic price change will be $1500 and nothing like the higher prices some others have mentioned. The wording lets me not proceed if the price rise isn't acceptable. That said I have dealt with this dealer many times and I have 110% confidence in the outcome.

No-one yet has any information on that. The pack hasn't even been confirmed for Australia, so worst-case it could be never (especially if it's deemed too close to the R to be offered in our small market).

And especially that if the price for the GTI comes out at $47k like the article last week suggested, then there isn't much room to move in terms of pricing once the price of the new Golf R is announced given that the Audi S3 is at $59,990.

Yeah, I'm ordering an S3 this week. If we're right and the GTi is as limited in terms of options for this first round, then I'm over it (where are my 19" wheels!). S3 is $66,500 drive away. Optioned GTi will be $56,500 drive away.

I was seriously considering a Golf R next year, but now I think we'll be ordering an Audi S3 sedan, hopefully Audi will have a demo/test vehicle S3 Sportsback in the next few months.
