This is getting silly now - dealer just called me back to say he can't do the test-drive tomorrow as although the cars are in they are not allowed to give drives until the 12th. Any similar experiences?

Great question.
I am looking at a manual 5 door as it comes to replace my MK6 gti and expect to pay around list that is 41490 with corp plus discount. I don't want mine for another 8 months by which point all the launch hype will have subsided.
Has anyone been able to get Corp plus pricing yet?
Hasn't officially been announced AFAIK.
I've given my dealer the nod today, just need to give them colour choice on Tuesday when i go to drive one. Will be either White, Grey or Black, with leather in DSG. Jan/Feb will be arrival time. Will be to replace the 77tsi in my sig.

Well this is an interesting thread - clearly it's an emotive issue.

My summary is that posters in this thread fit into 3 main categories:
People love the Mk7 GTI, have the $ and going to buy one
People who would like to have one but probably can't afford/justify one at the moment (and post reasons to justify why that's a good decision - i.e. spec list is not right, no 3 door, manual, etc)
People who have bought or are trying to convince others to buy something other than a GTI
We'll all see down the track how successful the Mk7 GTI is going to be given current competition in the segment of the market that it's priced into. But from all reports it's a fantastic car to drive and I'm sure there's going to be a number of happy new GTI owners to report back soon after the 12th.
For all those that want a 3 door/manual/Recarros or other options that you can't get locally, why don't you set up a group buy and import a bunch yourselves? You can fit 4 cars (possibly more for Golfs) into a shipping container - here's the link: International Car Shipping - Import and Export, Shipping cars overseas from UK. Stop complaining and go your hardest!
And as for the Merc/BMW/Renault crowd, well we thank them for coming into the market segment as it keeps VW honest and makes them put as much bang for buck into the GTI. If you compare specs form Mk6 to Mk7 you are getting more for less so the value proposition is still there. As to whether another brand offers a bit more bang for buck that's always going to be a question which inevitably plays out in the marketplace as consumers make their own minds up. Suffice to say there is cretainly more competition around from some of the more traditional "premium" brands who are trying to expand their offering into the lower price brackets.

I have put an order for my New Golf GTI mk7 yesterday after my test drive. DSG, black with Bixenon lights option!
I totally fit in the first bullet point above after waiting for this chance to purchase my first GTI finally! (6.5yrs waiting after buying a house).
I was just wondering if my approx $49k drive away price was a rip off? or did i get a good deal from it?

Hi Alipoo, did you get an ETA for your order? I'm worried the BiXenons wont be in the first batch. Im looking at similar spec no pricing just yet
I've ordered a pure white manual with bi-xenons. There's a note on my order that I want the performance pack manual so if that is announced before they build it I'll change it. Estimated delivery is March.
Well done VWA, you wore me down and I'm settling.

Hi Clarky,
ETA was 3months (manager quoted me 5months but thats kinda rediculous).
To answer your question, yes this was for a new factory build order i believe. I have to check my paperwork to see if there was a delivery date specified, however if none was specified, the contract states the dealer shall deliver the car within 3 months of signing the contract!
No bi xenons (here in Perth from all i know) were delivered in the first "batch".
Will be happy to know what price you get because I was just overwhelmed into the feeling of buying it quickly hahaha.

A Mk7 Golf GTI isn't the ultimate hot hatch purely in terms of the driving experience, but it comes close enough for most motorists, so a Mk7 Golf GTI with 5 doors and fitted with a self-shifting gearbox (with or without the Australian iteration of the PP) is all the car the average Australian motorist (who make up the bulk of sales) looking for a fast hatchback will ever need.
VGA also know this - and have specified the car accordingly - and I expect it will sell quite well.
A manual, 3-door Golf GTI very much remains a niche in this country, given that our market has a DSG uptake rate of around 75%-80% and the 3-door variant comprised of less than 5% of all GTI sales.
Perhaps when all has settled down, maybe they'll consider bringing them in a few years down the track?
