Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • $3150 for "Vienna" leather in the Golf.
I remember my early Mk 5 GTI had leather (or an equivalent man made material looking like leather on the sides of the seats). My dad's late Mk 5 Golf had cloth on the sides of the seats and most definitely vinyl on the back of the seats. Cost cutting
My Mk 6 has cloth on the sides and again likely imitation leather on the back.
Why the hell are we being asked to pay 3 grand for "some leather"
Well at least you get seat heaters.
In the Merc the standard seats are very nice man made suede. Look very cool and are very comfy. Option up the AMG Exclusive package for $2490 and you get very tasty red cut perforated black leather seats also with red stitching that's shames the VW partial leather. You also get 3 memory electric adjustment included with heating and upper dash covered in man made leather with red stitching that again looks brilliant.
Also in the Merc if you don't "want" a sunroof then don't open the thing and leave the sun shade closed. By the way the panoramic sunroof really is that and much better than in the Golf. So why would you complain about a "free" sunroof? Particularly when it looks much better at trade in time.
For the golf to not get LED tail lights after spending about 3 grand for bixenons is ridiculous. They should not be the same as what I paid for them 3 years ago. Oooooooo maybe I'll tick the option of an LED number plate globe
Yes unfortunately the A250 doesn't come in manual or have adjustable suspension but it does have a 3 pointed star badge on the front that says best in class depreciation rate. The VW has come a long way from being the "people's car"

    • Does anyone know where the Aussie GTI will be made ?

Are there any options for a larger screen audio unit or Dynaudio ?

Perhaps ask them why they did not put in safety equipment, such as Driver Assist which benefits everyone, including those outside the car, and cannot be retrofitted and leave out SatNav which people can add to their iPhone for $20 or add separately for $200, or retrofit as desired.

This would have allowed VWA to have a starting price of $39,990 and be enjoying a much more enthusiastic response from the GTI fan base on the value proposition as against the competing Mercs, Bimmers and Focus etc.

If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

Our Golfs are from Germany (and Mk7 Golf Wagon will be from Germany too). Neither Dynaudio nor Discover Nav Pro (8" screen) are on the options list.

That's exactly what they've been telling us, no-one wants to buy manuals in today's day and age. Oh and the R will almost certainly be 5 door, DSG only... We are a minority, not "normal" people... Heading back to Mel now...

              They aren't 3K

Driver assistance is optional on the A250 (afaik)

The standard screen in the A250 is the same size as the Golf. Option the standard sat nav and the screen size doesn't change.

I don't see why I cannot be an enthusiast and elect not to race my car around a track to preserve the long term running gear/tyres etc on my car.... I would if I had piles of $$$

Really? come on golf 7. Audi offer it in the new S3 as a no cost option.

And to be fair all your information about the golf being cheaper, having a cut price model etc was way of the mark.

                      • Since when do you have to thrash your car around a race track to be a car enthusiast. I think that's a very ignorant statement. And yes I do drive manual cars.

Well I apologise for what Fiona was saying, they were hinting at having a cheaper model, I apologise deeply for any massive inconvenience Marcotto. There is a whole fleet of Mk.7 Rs coming next week and they will all have DSGs so you can interpret that in any way that you want. Don't kill the messenger hey! Im already annoyed by having the flight delayed twice today and being stuck in what is the shed at Launceston!!!

Oh Fiona is head of strategic planning BTW... She was very indecisive on the PP. I would also like to take this opportunity to stress that if we did not pressure them on the PP, we WOULD HAVE NOT HAD ONE AT ALL... So at least we won something..

                          • Well the PP take up is going to be lower now because the same enthusiast who wanted it may have wanted a manual too. So Fiona will see the small percentage of sales that the PP makes up and may think her original doubts were justified but in reality it will be partly because they couldn't work out that plenty of us wanted it with a manual.

I guess I'm saying I can see them using the wrong logic to justify the rationalisation of the line up

Notice how i said many of the R32's and R's are only for daily driving to work and back, not all.
Why bother buying a performance variant of the car (especially the hardcore sports variant with AWD and recaro's) if you are only going to be driving it to work and only use about 4/10's of it's potential?

Fact of the matter is the majority of people are buying the GTI and the R now as a status symbol rather than becasue it is the performance variant so VW is catering to that market rather than the "enthusiast" market.
