Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi,

Thanks to you my wife is now happy driving early morning and late afternoon. The change to the lights coming on early seems to have been enough, however since I'm thinking of getting a VW myself I may still take you up on the offer. Do you know if the chinese VCDS cable and software work? There's one on ebay for about $60 delivered.

    Cheers,
    Karl

      Hey Karl,

Glad it's working out for your wife

I'm not too sure on the cheap Chinese ones, haven't seen them myself. Others may be able to shed some light

Just give me a shout if you need some coding done

      • Planning to Purchase new golf

        Hey Giuys,

I'm planning to buy a new Golf 92TSI comfortline DSG with the drivers assist pack.

Does anyone have any comments or recommendations for this car?

Hows the issues with this car?

I have come to conclusion that there is no car on the market that is trouble free and all vehicles are susceptible to issues but I would love to hear some feedback about this car.

I am upgrading from my 2010 VW Jetta 103TDI DSG.

Though the TDI is quite powerful...however the zippyness of the TSI is perfect for me as i drive mostly in the city area so TDI doesn't give the power i need to take off at intersections

            • I drove one week before as a dealer loan car. Very smooth, not as fast as 110tsi, and you can feel it, but more than enough to get around town in.

The only thing I would mention is the new stop start system. It turns off the engine while the car is still moving (10km/h) coming to a stop. Surprised me at first, but I got used to it.

Annoyed me a bit in stop start traffic as the car was restarting a lot, may have to do with the way I apply brake pressure.

Other than that, it's a really great car

I'm a big fan of the DSG having owned three over the past 10 years but these were the DQ250 6 speed wet clutch DSGs the same as you have in your 103TDI.

The seven speed DQ200 in the 92TSI is a different kettle of fish being dry clutch. There were countless issues with the DQ200 in the MK6 involving Mechatronics and clutches and whilst it seems the issues have been rectified in the main, there have been a few of posts on here regarding clutch issues in the MK7.

I'd buy a new VW with the DQ250 with no hesitation but I'd think long and hard about the DQ200.

                Cheers

                • I have 2 110TSI wagons parked in the garage and both have/had clutch issues. One slips intermittently, plus makes strange noises between shifts and the other has had clutch pack replaced and is shuddering/squealing again. If I knew what I know now, I would've gone the TDI with the wet clutch.

Yep, my thoughts are DSG with wet clutch is fine but DSG with dry clutch just doesn't work.

                    • Just an observation but it's interesting that despite most of us having faced DSG issues over the years and some of the whining that goes on in other threads that most of us are still sold on owning a VW and are happy to work around the trouble spots.

FWIW I'd be happy to own the 7 speeder on a 3-4 year purchase cycle but any more and I'd be looking at a TDI/GTI/R model to get the wet clutch.

Must be something wrong with me, never a problem with DSG for me!

                          • Low Speed (under 30km/h) Noise on MK7 MY16

                            All,

I am experiencing a low speed noise on my VW Golf MK7 MY16 (3 months old), the noise is like 'grug grug grug' and it comes for about 1-2 second at low speed between 4-8km/h and sometimes at 24-28km/hour. I noticed that it happens when not in changing gear.

The interesting about this noise is it only came after the car is warm / normal operating temperature i.e. after I drive for how about 30-45 minutes or more.

Anyone experiencing this or similar issue before?

You might want to try to record a video of it, and post that here for people to listen to?

                              • My partner just got her Golf Mk7 Trendline with DAP in Pacific Blue. I convinced her to get the Golf instead of a Corolla and I gifted her for the upgrade to Trendline with DAP

I've been reading a lot of forum posts here and other sites and have a few questions and thoughts about the car.

                                Thoughts:
                                - Start off by saying it's a very nice car, love the features and built quality, mostly. But I'm glad she got it instead of the Corolla.
                                - The seat material look and feel very cheap. I'm not a fan.
                                - Bit disappointed with the lack of features that are available on the Euro versions, no folding mirrors, paddle shift, voice, electric seats. I'm not sure these were ever standard on Euro spec, but for the price I wish/expected them. My 15yo Lexus has most of these features!
                                - She's hating the stop-start and not being able to turn it off permanently. I know I can get a VAG/VCDS cable but scared I'll press the wrong button and kill her brand new car. If it was my car it would be a different story.
                                - I've ordered accessories for it already! Boot liner, dashmat, led interior lights, exhaust tips...

                                Questions:
                                - Was the car supposed to come with the sunglasses holder near the rear view mirror? She doesn't seem to have one. Is there a trick to opening it? I thought it was spring loaded and just needed to be pressed in? I was so sure there was one in the test drive car.
                                - Do I have to get the expensive VCDS ross-tech cables or will the cheap ones off the internet work just fine? I'm thinking of tinkering with the car (turn off stop-start) in the future if I can convince my partner to let me.
                                - How easy is it to kill the car using the cable?
                                - Can I use carplay or android auto AND use bluetooth at the same time? My partner has a Windows phone but I want to install a cheap phone, maybe a iPhone 5c or a cheap android and use a shared data only plan sim and use it for navigation and music. Can she make/receive calls on her phone using bluetooth AND use app connect at the same time?
