  • I had my six month 'health check' yesterday. My Golf was part of the synthetic gearbox oil recall, so that needed to be done. I also had the wipers swapped out (due to the smearing issue) and this now appears to be resolved. FYI to everyone, 'apparently' you need to notify VW of this issue within the first month and/or 1000 km's otherwise you pay $70AU to get the new blade setup.
I also asked them to check if there were any updates for the SatNav system. They said unfortunately not however I should be aware that if and when there was one available for Au it would be a chargeable upgrade. In the same conversation it was suggested to me that I BitTorrent the Europe nav upgrade and try to update my system with that, however if it failed and it corrupted my nav system I would need to bring it back to the service centre to have it fixed (for a fee of course). I found it amusing that a rep of VW would advise me to try this.

That notification of the wiper issue is BS. It's a warranty issue isn't it?

If it is in warranty period and it doesn't do the job it is supposed to do then they would be required to replace it.
Having said that if the wipers have been heavily used then that would probably be considered "wear and tear" of a consumable item.

        • Isn't the issue the wiper arm though not the wiper blade?

After about a week i noticed that the sill protector was getting scratched on the drivers side and also taking the paint off the bottom of the door, Obviously the opposite of what its meant to achieve!

Having taken it back to VW they agreed there was a problem (The door was perfectly inline and had not dropped) I had it booked in to get the paint repair done on warranty and new sill protectors fitted. Have just found out today that these particular VW sill protectors are now being recalled by VW as they have been having similar tolerance issues. There are currently no modified ones available but they will have to remove all of mine and credit me as they need to send them back as part of the recall process. Just a heads up for anyone else that has them fitted

              • Hi there,

I am looking at getting my first Golf soon.

My wife and I are after the 103 Highline with the following options.
                - Driver Assistance Package
                - Panoramic Sunroof
                - Bi Xenon headlights
                - Vienna Leather.

When speaking on the phone, I was quoted $46,000. I have seen people get this for around $38,000 - is it reasonable to come in at that price? What do you guys think this should be worth? I am not too sure, but only want to spend $40K.

                Cheers

                • Is this price with or without fleet or corporate discounts? I think that price is way too much, you should be able to get high 30s or low 40s. Call around and see who gives you the best price, then work on it.

Actually, since you're in NSW, save your time and call Rockdale VW and ask for Keyvan, he'll do you a good deal with no fuss.

                  • Hi Veew,

This was without fleet or corp discounts. Am I missing something here? How can you get fleet pricing?

Thanks for your reply. Will give him a call tomorrow

I think you'll be pushing your luck to get a $46k car for $38k. Realistically you'll get 10-12% off list price.

If your budget is only $40k you might have to remove a few options.

                      Good luck with your dealings.

Just checked mine. Wow, what a balls up. The door has major scuffing underneath. I'll be going to see my dealer ASAP.

I am actually pretty disappointed I didn't pick it up earlier

Sorry to hear about your problem, but at least it's being addressed. Thanks for keeping the forum informed. I'm sure many would have bought these or are considering having them fitted. Luckily I opted not to buy the scuff plates, putting clear ventureshield on all four door sills instead

You can try via a broker or possibly your employer or your union / professional association might be part of the VW Corporate programme which gives ~60% off the predelivery cost & ~5% off the RRP IIRC.

Alternatively, know your prices & negotiate like a mofo. Play one dealer off against another, etc.

There's a pricing thread & a "I have ordered" thread that might be far more appropriate for this discussion.

BTW: If you've seen others achieve that price then it isn't unreasonable to expect to get it yourself but expect to have to work for it & possibly lower your own standards of behaviour in order to do so.

I looked at these when purchasing the car but they looked like a cosmetic feature only as they do not wrap over the first edge (like the standard ones on the Mk5 Golf) and thus don't protect the part of the sill that is likely to get scuffed. I looked at vinyl wrapping the area but the local place quoted $90 a door (they didn't like it when I laughed and walked out). So I still don't have any sill protection but at 23,000km they are still undamaged. Need to find something though for my own peace of mind.

Price seems steep @ $46K. Got my 110 TDI Highline with same options (no metallic paint) for $43K. At my time of purchase the List VW drive away price with no options was just under $40k. The total cost of the options is $8k. Imo $38k is unrealistic. Good luck.
