• Hi all,

Test drove the 90tsi (no options except DSG) back to back with the 103tsi (leather seats, sunroof, DSG) this afternoon. Have a few thoughts on them both which I will post tomorrow. Overall good experience with the dealership and salesmen, and cars are pretty good for what they are.

• Mk7 Golf TSI & TDI - Observations and Questions

Actually test drove the new golf yesterday instead of the polo gti. As much as i like the car I think I would always be waiting for engine issues.

Observations: both models build quality seems very high from initial impressions, nice handling for a standard hatch.

Didn't end up testing stereos in either car as I was talking the whole time and kinda forgot the young bloke salesman said the stereo is actually pretty damn good for a standard system (8 speaker in 103ts). Can anyone comment on its quality?

90tsi:
-seats are very comfy even in the base model (I've got a busted L5 disc so this is extremely important to me)
- stop start system a little intrusive
- DSG is hesitant as expected
- power didn't feel as underpowered as I expected
- very quiet inside (continental tyres I believe)
- brushed aluminium dash finish seems better than the upper models piano black

103tsi:
- had leather seats so couldn't compare the standard alacantara/cloth seats although I sat in a 110tdi after which had them and they seem very nice (the lumber adjustment is a nice touch)
- noisier on the inside with the 17" wheels (Dunlop tyres I think) on very course bitumen however it also has different tyres to the standard model so this could just be a tyre issue. Anyone have a different experience?
- start/stop system not as obvious
- dsg hesitation much the same
- power is pretty good but the dsg seems to like keeping it in a high gear and doesn't always want to drop down thus making the accelerator feel spungy (probably programming for better fuel econ)
- reverse camera is a nice touch, however undecided whether its necessary or not (I like just sensors)
- sat nav screen is a little blurry, almost like it has a stretched resolution

Also I've been trying to see if their has been any updates on the 7 speed dsg between the model used on the polo gti, is it true there are some mechatronics and clutch pack changes?

• Anyone else notice with their TDI that the fans stay on for an extended period of time (3-4 min easy) after even just a normal time?
Seems odd for them to run for so long after ignition off.

• Golf 6 R it isn't fans (for the extended period) but a reverse pump that pumps coolant around to get better cool down.

• Hi all,

this may be a stupid question to ask, but I added the bi-xenon headlights thinking they were the LED lights that circles the front lights only to realised recently that its not!

is that true? does vw not offer that option of LED for front head lights?

Page 27/28 shows the bi-xenon lights and has the description... they look good!

Shame they don't get the same double U led lights like thew new Golf R comes with...

Yes, the bi-xenons include the LED lights. Only the "U" around the normal beam is lit - but there is a "U" around the high beam. Makes me wonder how close it is to being able to light up both. Just some LEDs, or maybe a change to the wiring loom? I suspect the headlight unit is built with the option.

And while I love the look, they are great on unlit country roads - if I was only driving in well lit city areas I probably wouldn't have bothered.

• We have had our new Golf for a couple of weeks now and have noticed that the front left & right hand panels are loose where they meet the A pillar. I've pointed this out to the dealer and their reply was that all the Golf 7's in their yard are the same and there is nothing behind that part of the panel that could be clipped to secure them.

Has anyone else noticed this on their car? If it is the same with all of this model then we'll have to live with it but to me it seems like very poor quality control at the factory .

I believe this is normal. It has only occurred 2-3 times with my TDI and only after a reasonably long drive on a Brisbane warm day. The same thing used to happen with my Passat TDI

• LMF,
Thanks for checking & replying, I know it's a small issue but I've owned three other VAG cars in the past seven years and I know for sure that none of them had this flaw.

Its do to with the DPF. The engine runs hotter to burn out the contents of the diesel particulate filter, something like that, so the fan runs after shut down.

Every time it happens I get stopped by someone saying my car is making a funny noise!

• I have the TSI and after I turn off the engine it has some air pumping sounds somewhere in the engine bay and I think it may have something to do with the cooling system, does anyone know what it is?
