Guys, it has been my absolute pleasure updating you with all the information I have about the new Golf, and I certainly will do everything I can in the future to make sure that everyone knows as much as possible about the GTI and the upcoming AaaaaaaaaaRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
You think at their head office? How can you be not sure? Sorry to repeat myself but I just saw this additional post :Why would they invite a "complete novice, some teenager, who was studying law and writing about cars" as you say?

Is that the same event where you met and talked to the big boss from Germany Robert Hacklenberg? You mentioned this in the GTI thread.

Get your facts right first, Robert Hacklenberg is clearly not Dr. Ulrich Hackenburg... ANd he's not a big boss, he's just Head of R&D, I do have his direct line though. I'm just a good friend of one of the guys in the press department. We were not sworn to complete secrecy and yes others have mentioned it... Take a look on Carsales where they talk about the PP and its availability. Wheels chucked up pictures on Facebook from a similar event for the normal Golf 7 earlier in the year...

And lastly, why the plethora of questions?

Sorry but I was just quoting your own wrong name of the good man - straight from your GTI thread.

I knew his name and just wanted to see if you would pick up on it.

The comments about the PP and its availibily on e.g. Caresales are straight from the International GTI launch in Austria. Invited journos on an offical trip. I'm just saying nobody else has mentioned your little preview for all the other journos yet. Just intersting...

Wheels have on Facebook, if you're not a VW enthusiast, then it's nothing special to be honest, we go to such events all the time.

          • hi guys,

i'm currently driving the golf mkv 5 from 2005, just wondering if this is the model to upgrade to.

i had a test drive of the highline the other day and as much as i like the feature of the new golf,i can't help but to think that they have taken numerous shortcuts to get the price down.

i didn't say this to offend people, but the materials seems much better on my MKV

That said, i really like the new fuel efficiency and the drive was quite enjoyable, although i felt very restrained since it's not my car.

what do you guys think? i am happy to wait another year if there's something just as awesome around the corner.... Fuel efficiency is the big one for me since i do a lot of inner city driving.

The MkV had good interior? A Pirelli that has less than 5k on the odometer recently had its roof lining collapse. Same as my father in law's 45k GTI. And the side panels and buttons are badly scratched.

              • I've noticed some poor build quality on the first Golfs to come out of Zwickau... Rattly door grips, centre console... Just a note out there to buyers, try and wait a bit before you order your Golfs, the first batch sent from Zwickau isn't of great quality, we have some of the first RHD ones... Try and get the ones built after Feb 2013... They had about 61 behind the scenes updates...

                • I recall early information talking about a phone "box" with an inductive antenna connection. Did this make it to Australia?

You remember correctly, I'll enquire about the antenna being connected to the centre glovebox.

                        • Mk7 Pre-Order Queries

I took the TDI and TSI Highlines out for a spin today, and am considering moving from the Polo 6R TDI into the Golf TDI. I just have a few queries which I am hoping someone may be able to assist with:

Towbar - Has anyone got the towbar option? It looks like it is going to be another case of the dealership cutting a hole in my bumper like the Polo, as it isn't a factory option from what I'm told, really hoping someone can tell me that this is wrong information, the finish on my Polo is far less than professional.

iPhone - Is the Mk7 compatible with Siri? i.e. can I press a button on the steering wheel to speak with Siri or do you still have to press it on the phone

iPod - The Polo can have an iPod plugged in the glovebox 24/7 and reads from that, I'm told that the Mk7 can only connect to iPod's via Bluetooth and therefore you need to use the iPhone, I am hoping this is wrong as I don't want my wife and I to have to pair our phones everytime one of drives the car to get music going.

Stop/Start - I've been told that you have to turn Start/Stop off each time you drive, there is apparently no option to turn it off altogether; is this true? As much as I liked the auto-hold feature I disliked the start/stop feature

Bi-xenons - I am considering this option, and wondering if they are worth the money on the Mk7 as I haven't seen them in the flesh yet?

                          • Mk7 Pre-Order Queries

Placed my order yesterday after having a weekend demonstrator.
I'm not sure about the tow bar or the Siri, but as far as the ipod connectivity goes I believe it is Bluetooth only (Not 100% sure though). I intend to use my iPhone to stream Internet radio and then load a good size SD or USB with my music and just leave it plugged in.
Start stop feature seems to go back to default 'on' after each drive. Bit annoying but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
I was also considering the bi-xenons, which are apparently awesome, but I found the standard lights really good anyway plus u get the static cornering lights with all highline's. personally i couldn't justify the cost.

                            • Thanks for the feedback, and congratulations on the purchase. I'm looking at the SD option now, to see if I can load my iTunes library onto that, I'm just not sure how it is going to appear on the media unit (i.e. can I search through folders and genres or whether it will just be a big mess). In the test drive I worked out that if you push only lightly on the brake the start/stop feature doesn't kick in, so I am guessing we will all need to get used to that, my fear is that this will be a potentially faulty feature that no doubt will be very expensive to fix.

Yeah, I'm worried about how quickly the starter motor will wear out. It is becoming a common feature with car makers these days so you'd think they know what they're doing.
