Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I also sat in one Highline yesterday at the dealer's, the piano black was a huge turn off for me, the cabin layout compared to my Golf VI is also not captivating at all. I love the way those two chrome surround air vents in MK VI stand in front of you boldly; they look awesome. I told the sales guy i wasn't interested in having a test drive (even though it drives very well according to reviews). IMO, the cockpit is what i interact with every time i'm driving and since i don't like what Golf 7 offers, I'll be looking at upgrading to audi A3 sportsback in due time; it's interior layout doesn't look too far from my current golf VI. It costs a whole lot more but it's a worthy upgrade!
Golf 90TSI MY12, DSG, Candy white, Denver alloys, Pirelli P1 cinturato, RCD 510, R-dash led licence plate lights, 35/40% tinted windows, GTI OEM tail lights, fog lights, Etuners stage 1, chrome exhaust tips.

Agree with the air-vents on the Mk.6, now the shiny stuff is everywhere... Subjectively, not as special...

They looked amazing in the Mk.6... That Mk.7 is bothering me, it's better but it's not somehow... Oh and an i30, yes that's right, that Korean thing has soft touch plastics on the rear door sills...

Forget about the i30, Golf7, when are you going to share your experience of being one of the few people in Australia to have had a close up look at the Mark VII GTI in Australia, or report about it on your blog?

I would have thought you would have been bursting at the seams to tell that story given your praise for the Mark VII 90TSI Trendline. It's gotta be pure gold hasn't it?
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

                      Hey!

It was only a very short presentation on the GTI followed by journalist pretty much filing in one-by-one into the driver's seat of the GTI.What I noticed was that the new black carbon-fiber look trim is no-where near as nice as it looks in the photos, think of it as an even worse looking version of what our Highline's get. The New GTI has all of the pluses of the regular Golfs too, the boot is nice and big, the rear seats in the new GTI are much better and there's better rear visibility due to the L shaped rear head restraints. The pedal placement on the LHD one was perfect the gear-shifter was nice and close to hand and overall the interior has a bit more sporting flair than the MK.6 GTI which is a good thing but something was missing, what I've written about in the previous posts, I also echo here... It looks like a very nice car overall in the metal, the new rear lights are sweet and the diffuser is very nice as well. The front with the xenons is much nicer than the normal lights on our normal Golfs as they look much sharper and suit the car much nicer as they also integrate one of the Golf's key design features; they also extend through the headlights the MK.7's wraparound signature line.

It was a lovely car in every way and I'm certainly itching to drive it ASAP!!!

Oh and one more thing, those tiny windows near the mirrors are useless! Sitting in the driver's seat you can't even see out of one... Complete waste.

If only everyone knew how much money VW spends on R&D, Golfs would be the only cars on our roads. Why on earth would someone buy something else???

It would be a dream come true for Volkswagen Group executives and shareholders, that's for sure. Ka-ching $$$$$$

But I think the rest of us would prefer to decide for ourselves. Choice is good.

Shame about those useless tiny windows . . . pity you did not mention them in your lengthy report after your long drive in the TSI.

By the way, besides your autoblogaustralia, which other media outlets attended the GTI "specification consultation"? Was there also such a consultation for the other Mark VII Golf models? Do you expect to be consulted by VW again when they are trying to work out how to specify the Golf R?
