Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. I always thought the car would take off when the car in front takes off, but it doesn't (well mine doesn't anyway). It just starts the engine and then you have to take the accelerator to take off again.

    • Turn off the auto hold. Mine takes off automatically when is it off but stays stationary when it is on.

        GTI PP w/driver assist

So many more toys and gizmo's compares to my humble Mk6 GTI - still getting my head around them all....

        • Hi, took delivery this week of a GTI PP with driver assist. Out today for first real drive, way cool. Man these thing drive well. Also notice fellow GTI driver MK6 checking it out. GTI's seem to have a cult of there own, now I see why.
          Best car I've owned.

Yeah I don't know about that either. We never have auto hold and it won't take off when the car in front moves. You have to press the accelerator then it takes off to the set speed.

              • I have the range also set to very short. Not sure what else needs to be set. I was in bumper to bumper traffic and set the cruise to 70 and it slowed stopped turned then engine off and then back on and took off again. All without me touching the pedals. Wifey didn't event know I wasn't using the pedals until I told her.

                • You guys seem to know somthing about pricing on the new models.

I just bought the GTI 7 performance demo 12/2013 build with about 2200 km with leather, ACC, tinted front windows and Metallic paint for $50,500 from a VW mascot dealer.

I thought it was a good deal at the time but when you add the cost tinting 2 windows at $450 and 2 years extended warranty $2,990 totaling $53,940 and then receiving delivery of the car in a dirty condition with just over a 1/4 tank of petrol I felt they cut corners on the delivery so I decided to get the car inspected by stateroads who did a full inspection and found several fault codes reported in the vehicle control modules, and recommended taking back to check and clear or repair the faults. there was also a chip in the windscreen and few paint chips in panels. I had only seen one because the car was so dirty when i test drove it now I'm guessing why.
Does anybody else think this is a good deal or have I been taken. this was a new model and I couldn't find many comparisons for pricing.

I have to say this is the 3rd new golf I have bought and this was by far the worst delivery presentation on a new car I have had. I emailed them last week with the inspection report but haven't heard back yet. Looks like I will need to go VW.au with the fault complaint to get fixed under warranty.

I also have it set to very short and cruise set to above the speed limit and it does come to a stop and turns the engine off. Then turns it on after the car in front takes off but my car won't take off until i tap the pedal.
I was also at another dealership with a friend yesterday and he mentioned this to the dealer and the dealer also said that the car will not take off after it has stopped. It only readies the car by turning the engine on, he said you have to tap the pedal or press the res button to take off.

Firstly, sorry to hear your buying experience hasn't been good.

Secondly, what's done is done in terms of pricing - I'd expect to pay $52-54k for the car you described new, so a demo at $50k isn't terrible given VW dealers reluctance to discount such cars.

I'd only suggest the extended warranty was a bit of a ride but that's just my personal view.

Hopefully you get whatever errors rectified - keep us posted. The chips will be tough to do anything about though.

I have a correction to make. Mine does also need the accelerator tapped if stationary for an extended period.
If it pops up on the dash with "ACC ready" then i have to tap the accelerator. If that has not come up yet it will take off.

This is probably the first time I saw a night blue GTI on this forum.

                              Looks nice

Thanks I though the extended warranty was pricey also. in 2010 I bought a Golf TSI and was offered a 3y extended warranty for $1600 I regretted not taking it as I still have the car and now it's out of warranty things are starting to play up. Just managed to replaced the highpresure fuel pump underwarranty as it had only just expired.
This time they offered it to me at $2990 for only 2 years and this was a discounted price if I purchased it at a later dated it would have cost $500 more. High pressure sales here.

Unfortunately the delivery issues have not only not been resolve they don't even respond. I sent an email on the 5th to customer relations with a copy of the report I had done by stateroads showing engine code faults (i'm told this is normal when cars are shipped the software is updated and all faults are checked and cleared if they do the delivery correctly). the email also detailed how dirty and marked the care was when it was handed over and what a rushed and poor job the guy that did the delivery was he even ticked off all the delivery points I was meant to check on the car and asked me to sign off on it. I crossed off most of what he ticked as ok as it clearly wasn't.
since the 5th I have called 3 times left 2 messages and when I tried to speak with the sales guy who sold me the car I was told he no longer worked there and he was the one person who did his job well it was just a shame that he was not there when I picked up the car.
I rang again yesterday and still no return call. if I don't hear from them next week I'm going to contact John White the Managing Director of Volkswagen G.A. I'm sure he would like to know how long time clients are being treated. The previous 2 Golf's I bought were from a different group Denlo and the North Shore VW and their service was so much better. I was going to go back but was pushed for time so decided to stay closer to home. That was a mistake that I now regret I know from experience that the other company would have fixed this issued right away in fact i doubt it would of have happened in the first place.

I will keep you posted on developments.
