Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • From Series 3 to Series 7 - Is this a Golf?

Well at least the light switch is still in the same place!

After 15 years and 300k on the clock I sold my series 3 GL and went for a Comfortline TSI 90 Series 7.

What is it with Golf these days - it's so hard to get a manual car?
I didn't have the $ for a GTI, a bit hard to sell to the family as the Golf is the second car - but if you want a manual then Comfortline is as swish as you get... OK - I guess - where do I sign?

I made the order on 31 Oct last year - just in time for some 'special on road deal' had tinting and mats thrown in for $27k drive away. Given my 1998 Golf GL when new was well over $30k at the time it makes you realise just what we're getting these days for the money!

Anyway the car finally arrived in Australian on January 6, I took delivery yesterday (Jan 17) so I'm very happy to have a MY14 Series 7 with compliance date of Jan 2014. Build date was Sept 2013.

So far, so good - lovely drive, very responsive. Still getting used to an electronic hand brake - especially when I need to do a reverse hill start on my driveway.

When getting dealership tinting, they have missed the small triangle windows near the windscreen, which must be a right pain. Getting it fixed next week, the guys at Denlo Parramatta seemed perplexed - "1st time anyone has ever noticed!". Anyway let's see how good their after sales care is!

Looking forward to learning and trading tips from other Series 7 owners here...

    cheers - Zeph

    • Just negotiated for my sister a brand new 2013 plate Golf 103TSI Highline DSG candy white for $30,800 drive away with half tank of fuel. Pretty good as RRP $36,640 and got even more off from the promo price of $31,990

      • Nice one, my family picked one up around that price back at the EOFY sales when the Golf wasn't selling too well.
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

        • Signed the paperwork on friday for a limestone grey comfortline manual. Brought a smile when I test drove it with the family on board Wed evening and even as a stop start skeptic was impressed. Looking forward to hopefully picking up late this week (in time for the long weekend). Stayed with the 16's (can share rubber with the Bora which I am keeping - have a full size alloy spare which I purchased for long country drives). Just heard about the COTY award and have to agree it is one of the most complete vehicles on offer.

That is a very good price for both of you guys! Ryan_R, was that price obtained with any fleet/corporate discounts?

And the manager tried to tell me he is losing $450 on the car at that price - I said 'yeah right BS!'

Same here. Pick mine up tomorrow.
Originally wanted highline but no manual option which annoyed me. Got satnav driver assist and 18" alloys. Now to sell the mk4...

                      • Got a white Comfortline manual back in early December, only waited a week from Ringwood vw, including darkest legal tint and mats for $25100, barloworld glen wanted to charge me $30000 for the exact same setup.

Very happy with my purchase just added the 18" rotary wheels, looks amazing!

Spikeyboy: Not sure if the firware is different to the two models, but lnowing our very dear friends at VWA, it's entirly possible that there will sortly be a retro fit option to update the firware for the my13 nodel. I would like to think that VWA will provide the update free of charge, but I won't hold my breath. More likley, the cost from VWA for the upgrade will be similar to the annual budget of a small African country!

                          • Looking at making a purchase on a new Comfortline DSG this weekend (for the partner anyway). Been scoping out deals for a while now and weren't too pleased with the previous reception at Barloworld Bayside (attempted to flog their on the floor white Comfortline...wasn't too pleased).

Anyone had much difficulty selling the 16' alloys?

                            • Yesterday I secured a mk7 gti carbon steel, dsg, leather, bi-xenon and sun roof. It arrives in Melbourne late February.

Cal at barloword bayside (vic) is a great guy, is very helpful and ultimately found us the right car at a great price. He is highly recommended

Can't wait to pick it up
