Got a quote from a regional dealer, for a Comfortline wagon with metallic paint, mats, front weathershields and reversible boot mat for $31200... I hope I can push it down to $30k!

Hi Guys.. It has been awhile since on this forum as life got busy. My wife still has her 2011 Jetta 118 Comfortline (which suffered the DSG issues but please to say they are sorted). I'm potentially looking at downsizing my vehicle .. was thinking of a Golf Wagon, but was pretty impressed with the hatch in the end particularly with the R Line package (I dont need a GTI but like it dressed up a little). Dealer has one on floor with Xenons and Sunroof. A quick read suggests the DAP is a worthwhile add. Is this something that needs to be ordered in build phase or is it something that could be added to the floor car if chose to throw that in the mix. I assume it is not an absolute must have but a worthwhile one? Thoughts..MY12 118TSI Jetta DSG | Comfortline | Black

It would need to be factory ordered. Haven't seen any retrofit kits and if one did crop up I can't imagine it would be cheap given the radar unit that needs to sit in the front bar and who knows what other modules and coding to get it working properly. It's not something I'd want to be trusting..Originally posted by scamma View PostHi Guys.. It has been awhile since on this forum as life got busy. I was never going to use it so saw no value in optioning it; however those that are using it swear by it. Ultimately test the unit out and establish for yourself.
Keep in mind that with MY15 production just around the corner you'll lose the ability to add xenons, so you may need to choose between that and DAP.
The R Line is a nice looking ride though..

I haven't really done too much research on it but probably place it in the "nice to have" rather than necessary so probably share your opinion there. Certainly wouldn't bother with getting it if it wasn't anything more than a straightforward dealer option. Are they withdrawing.xenons on the my15 model? Is info on changes released somewhere I should look at to assess? Dealer has about 43.5 k drive away on floor but that's a starting price that needs to head south. Thanks for your response

They're withdrawing the xenon option on models under GTI PP and R. No other noteworthy changes: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...olf-96390.htmlOriginally posted by scamma View PostI haven't really done too much research on it but probably place it in the "nice to have" rather than necessary so probably share your opinion there. What's the R Line package worth?
At a guess this vehicle should be available for around 37-39 depending on state and just how much the R Line is costing. I'm thinking 43.5 is pretty much an on road RRP. I'm basing that on a 103TSI Highline though. If it's a 110TDI Highline then that's another couple grand.

Yeah it's the 103 motor .. R line is 2k then sunroof and xenons.. Plus onroads .. Agree it's basically RRP.. Needs negotiating down .. Will need to do some reading on where expectations lie. Cheers and thanks for link.. Will check tomorrow.

I picked up my wagon last Monday with DAP fitted.
I've got to say that the ACC is fantastic and gives a greatly more relaxed drive on freeways and in heavy stop start traffic. In heavy traffic, combined with the auto-hold and the start stop its magic. I find that setting the speed to the speed that the traffic is moving when it gets going a bit (rather than the speed limit) works well as the car won't accelerate and brake too aggressively. The ACC will stop you when the traffic stops. If the stop-start stops the engine the ACC will restart it when the car in front moves. Then it's a tap on the throttle or hit the resume button to get going (I normally use the throttle as it's a quicker response).
On freeways you are no longer turning the CC on and off whenever you approach slower moving cars or when some wally changes lanes in front of you.
The DAP also provides the automagic parking (a bit of a gimic for people that can park but for those that can't...) and the driver mode selection which give access to the "ECO" and individual modes.
I agree with Dutch77 that you should test it out it realistic situations. So maybe try to get a test drive during peak hour.
I'd choose DAP over Xenon any day
Good luck!--

No dramas. If you are comfortable negotiating aggressively I'd offer to sign at 38-39; it's decent buying at 40 and under.
At 40 I'd be at least pushing for the usual mats, tint, full tank, a boot liner, a VW mug and whatever else you can negotiate in (yes my contract included a GTI cap marked as no charge, and I then had a beanie thrown in on pick up as the caps one size fits all doesn't.. Or I just have a big head
)

This is what I mean, everyone will have a strong opinion based on their own ideas and needs.Originally posted by lambertia View PostI'd choose DAP over Xenon any day
I'm in a minority who don't use cruise control much less any of the DAP gizmos so I knew I wouldn't be spending on it, while I didn't feel like spending $2k for a red line in my lights (GTI). Of course the 1% of my driving that occurs on the freeway at night has now occurred twice in the first few weeks of ownership and I can see a smidgen of value in xenons - I'll just have to look at a bulb upgrade in the future (see the headlight thread for more info).

It's an interesting conversation.. I like utilising cruise control but don't bother on the freeway ( and I'm on freeway a fair bit) so I can see DAP would be a good option. I've never had xenons so I guess I wouldn't know what I've missed. So if I go this floor model then I guess I get a new experience with lights ( how do you finfd the standard setup?) and have cruise control in a manner how I'm used to using it.. As I said an interesting thought process!

See what sort of deal you can get done if it's a car you're keen on. Keep in mind ordering a fresh car with DAP and dropping the xenons could be a lengthy wait unless there is another R Line the dealer can get their hands on.Originally posted by scamma View PostIt's an interesting conversation.. Alternatively if you don't mind dropping a bit of the body work, why not consider optioning up some 18 inch OEM Motorsport or Rotary wheels from vwparts on here's $2300-$2450 with Continental tyres fitted. Smartens up the look and gives it a nice sports look without losing the OEM look: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...age-96544.html
Keep us up to date with your decision, and if you get the floor stock get some pics up.

I'm risking buyers remorse here if I got a bad deal
.
I have seen little discussion of GTI pricing.
I am in Brisbane.
I've purchased a manual with Leather (retrofit not factory so no heated seats) for $36k trade-in of a 2007 Mazda 3 SP23 hatch (manual).
Dealer also included tinting of my choice.
There are not a lot of manuals around so I decided to sign at that price rather than risk being stuck until Sept or later.
I'm currently attempting to get them to install the patch for voice control so I can test it properly and give some feedback to other folks. They want $380 for the update which is poor form by VAG.

That's because the GTI pricing is covered off in the GTI section rather than here.Originally posted by mgrobins View Post

I'm guessing $8-10k wholesale for the SP23 which means $44k to $46k for the GTI, which with the aftermarket leather ranges from a small to reasonable saving on list.
Like I mentioned on the GTI thread and a few others have said - if you're happy with the car enjoy it, and don't stress the last dollars. Particularly as you said you might otherwise be have been waiting till September.
Might be good of you can post up some pics of the after market leather so people can get an idea of how it came out?
