      • Looking forward to hearing how it went!!

I have about £10,000 available for a deposit ; price I want with extras is £25,000.

With dealers if you're buying new is the price on the VW website pretty much solid? If you're paying via a credit package with VW do you basically have ZERO negotiating power?

Assuming things work the same way over your way as they do here, then no, the price on the website is merely a list price and you should be negotiating down from there.

As for finance it will depend - if its standard finance then it shouldn't impact your negotiated price. If it's a specific under-market interest rate sold by VW Finance then often the restriction will be that the car must be sold at list price.. then it's a case of calculating whether you're better off with the low finance or not.

I don't see adding driver assist will result in you being screwed over. I'd be starting your negotiations below $28.5k, but that target should be very achievable (assuming the original $30,290 was only standard price and not a promotion, as a 90TSI I'm guessing standard).

I got 12.3% off my base 90 TSI manual last June and that didn't take much bargaining. The dealer had exactly the car I wanted sitting there on top of a shipping container on display and I had the money saved, no trade and they accepted my second offer. Was almost too easy. They then did an even better deal on new Comfortline wheels and tyres.

Worth keeping in mind that the 90TSI base price was $2k higher back in June last year, so achieving a discount of that magnitude may be more difficult now.

Doesn't sound anywhere near a good price.

Was going to say.. I couldn't even get the list price with options to $33.3k.

But it's still not a great price. I'd be coming back at $31k drive away if they want your signature today.

                        • Does the Golf wagon have keyless entry/push button start? or an option to upgrade to that?

                          • The Golf wagon brochure is now part of the Golf brochure. So the answer would be no.

                            • I went in to a dealership today, and tried getting a quote for a manual Comfortline (14 build) in Pacific Blue. They said they have one coming on a boat in a few weeks and it will sell fast, all they will offer is basically the car for $25,990 with mats. Got a couple of quotes with extras and I would have to wait until September for them (mainly because of the Driver Assist pack), and they aren't anywhere near as competitive as the $28,490 deal mentioned above on the DSG (which is basically retail with none of the listed extras?!). The guy I spoke to said you struck a really good deal. I did get a quote for this exact car with DAP only 2 months ago for exactly $26k, I thought that was a fair deal. But I am not so sure now. I know they have gone up but should I really expect them to move minimally if I want to buy? They wouldn't even throw in the LED numberplate lights. Any ideas on how I can go about this?
