  • lol seems like I've brought many people together to discuss tsi and tdi.
I've test drove both, and I just couldnt tell much difference...diesel a little bit more noisy when idle, and thats about it.
and i think the fuel consumption for tsi/tdi is very similar or almost identical, not like previous MK6.
Again, im only doing short trips, probably no more than 10000km each year, that why i chose tsi over tdi:
    - The 110TDI is fitted with a DPF, which favours trips where the vehicle can get up to (and stay at) nominal operating temperatures.

    • Anyone else noticed that getting a 90TSI DSG costs $1000 more than the manual, but the same thing costs $2500 on the 90TSI Comfortline?

      • Yes, someone has been posting about that a lot recently somewhere around here and asking us why instead of a dealership...
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

        • Easy, there's a lot of DSG 90TSI's around and they want to clear them out. Its called a sale, the 90TSI doesnt have some magically cheaper DSG in it.

As gracious and logical as ever.

This forum is supposed to be a source of reliable information.

Why would you call a VW dealership if you wanted to be certain you would get that?
If the answer to the Monty Hall problem was 50/50, the contestant, on average, would win the car 50% of the time simply by sticking with their original guess...but you can only win a one-in-three guessing game 33.33% of the time so it can't be 50/50, can it?

            • When it comes to pricing I would expect the dealer to be the source of reliable information and the forums to be a source of speculation.

              • honestly i wont bother to ask dealership about either technical stuff, sales know less than i do about mk7 golf, dunno how VWA trained them, and imo they wont know much about pricing strategies of VWA either, or probably they wont bother to tell you...

It's something more than pricing information, Ryan_R. We know the price, we're wondering why there is an apparent pricing anomaly and most dealer staff are unlikely to know the answer to that question.

That's the benefit of VAg having Skoda and VW in Australia. Octavia can chase low spec Mazda 3 etc.
The low spec (and biggest seller) Neo looks abit povo (no touch screen, no alloys etc). No way to get touch screen etc unless you stump up for Maxx. A lot of people will be tempted to stretch to that model (23-25K + ORC) - at full retail onroad thats about 26K to 28.5K.

The Maxx doesn't only have a touch screen radio, it has satnav and reversing camera as standard. It also has 114kw with 200Nm with <6L/100km. IMHO the sweet spot is the SP25 at $27.9k+ORC (2.5L engine with 138kw/250Nm, 6L/100km and more goodies). I don't think the Skoda has a chance. Its range doesn't even have reversing cameras. I also don't think the looks of the Octavia and the fact it comes in sedan and wagon forms will entice the 3's target market.

Hatch and wagon. Then again Mazda used that idea for the new Mazda 6 - sedan and wagon.

                            • You may also want to check out the MZD system on the 3. Miles ahead on what VW's got.

Not sure what you're on. The target markets are not the same.

We were quoted $3950 for an extra two years warranty from VW on a 110 TDi. Way too expensive IMHO.
