    • Yeah, pretty good- but that's a manual right?

      • So I am reporting back on the Bluetooth Microphone Issue I was having with my Golf R.
So the dealership was useless in resolving the issue, so I decided to swap the microphone from my Mk7 TDI with the R and presto! the problem then went to the TDI and the R worked perfectly, so I have ordered a new microphone online.
Honestly, even though it is in warranty, I just don’t even want to deal with my dealership anymore, and I am just going to pay for this myself.

              • Picked up my grid wagon with pano and dap for $52.8K. Very impressed thusfar!

Have given it a few 100kms now, and also on some not so great roads - and I am most surprised by the ride quality, the dcc is quite good.

                • What colour did you end up getting?

                  • Hey Wally, went with the stormtrooper look. It was always our preferred colour to be honest, and the white contrasts well against all the black bits ie mirror covers, roof rails, sunroof, grill, tints etc Im not so sure on those speilberg rims though, might decide to go something else.

                    • ^ congrats GTIW, agree re the Spielberg’s, think I’m going to have them painted gloss black as soon as I pick up my Grid (hopefully) by weeks end. I’ve see them painted and they look much better.

ah black spielbergs, nice idea! Would love to see some pics when you have them done!

Also how have/ are folk here running in their R ? So much opinion on the interwebs. The manual itself states go easy the first 1,000km (I don't have it in front of me atm for exact wording). I am taking this to mean no race mode for this timeframe (much as it annoys), and std driving otherwise (ie variable speed, no high revs).

As to running in I make sure the car is up to temp then give it the beans! Also vary revs, speed and load particularly when on the freeway for first few hundred Km's. Ive had 4 VAG performance turbos and no issues with oil consumption etc following the above

                            • Run your car in S mode with plenty of Manual shifts, flex it through the rev range but don’t exceed 4000 rpm for the first 1000 km.
Find some good long down hill runs to do engine braking and accelerating up to 4000 rpm. Don’t lug or overload the engine as excessive temperature in a new engine will cause the oil to oxidise and could glaze the newly honed cylinder bore.
Upon delivery take it home with little load and put it away until you can spend the time running it in right.
                              Enjoy !

I agree with this. I always take this approach and usually dedicate a day or two exploring my favourite twisty mountain roads in my new car to bed it in properly for the first 1000km getting a little further up the rev range as you get closer to 1000km.

Never ever have issues with oil consumption after this approach on lots of vehicles
