Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Picked up a Grid Edition R last week and have been loving it. My wife and I have a fully spec'ed MK2 Tiguan, so electronic leather seats and an active info display is not something that I feel I'll miss. I haven't taken it off Race mode since owning the car, but I'm not even mad about the fuel consumption - I was expecting worse to be honest.

The two cars look pretty nice side-by-side. Yes, I did remove the Grid Edition badge. Feel free to hate on me for that, but I didn't like the look of it.

I'd put a wad of cash on there not being any warranty issues as there aren't even any sensors in the thing, but don't quote me. And keep your expectations low - the resonator has a straight thru path, so the sound difference is minimal.
Thanks mate - yep I'm looking at the Audi/OEM kit with the clamps.

So it would be fair to say from your perspective that the res delete is not worth it?

        Seems to be mixed reviews

If you come from the Subaru Drain-Pipe Exhaust crowd, like me - then no. If you've been a quiet, respectable, type driving mild cars around all your life, then yep.
          2017 - Golf R 7.5 - Blue - DSG - Proper Roof - DAP - Res' delete - Dynaudio delete
2008 - Mazda 2 - (Maybe my first child scared me a bit) -1998 - Wrx (modded up to but not including forged pistons)
          1988 - Corolla TwinCam - (couldn't insure a 323 Turbo)
1967 - Tonka Tip Truck - Red with 2 inch plastic rims and a massive sand scoop.

It was a dealer demo car, but only had about 350kms on it when I picked it up.
It was $49,500... plus they gave me $2500 on our old trade in, so i paid $47k all up.

                Haha, fair enough

I'm coming from a 2016 WRX, zero mods. So I'm sure the neighbours will notice a difference in acoustics come October.

Is that DSG or manual? Did you get driver assist and sunroof?

                      • Well done! I’m in negotiations for a new White DSG Grid with sunroof, DAP and tint; got them down to $50.5k. Good price?

I'd say that's fantastic price 15+% off. I'd push for 49,999 and hand them credit card for deposit which I'm sure they won't want to lose sale over $500. These grid editions are fantastic bang for buck. That same spec in a 2015 model MK7R you were looking $10k more. Plus have the upgraded improved 7Sp trans. I think it's hands down the best bang for buck performance you can get.

                          • ^ agreed, cheers, one dealer refused $50k (tells you where the floor is), might be able to shave a few $ off the 2nd dealer, but otherwise happy with that price for a super rig.
