NO, not if it's detected by VW. Best is to flash remove it before servicing or warranty work which APR claim puts it back to stock and untraceable but no body can confirm this 100%.

It is NOT detectable by VW as I "know a guy" ... hint....hint, who had his turbo fail once tuned and limped it back to the apr tuner and flashed back to stock and re-installed factory air box, got it towed from the performance shop through vw roadside assist to VW dealer and they tried to say it was tuned but could not prove it, even sent the ecu file to Germany for 3 days before they carried out any work, i even told them it was the turbo that shat itself.

Outcome was new engine and turbo and exhaust from turbo to cat and a BIG warranty on the work carried out, just ensure what model turbo you have ,aka revision, because if you have one of the faulty ones there should be no questions asked as if you have the newer one they might look into it deeper.

You have to remember that VW cannot refuse warranty on "suspected" mods, they have to prove they have been done, as "here say" won't hold up.

nevertheless, the APR tune is golden. and I will be going stage 2 a DSG tune.

I have thought about dsg tune too, do the standard clutch packs hold up? My biggest fear after the apr tune is killing the dsg?

The clutch packs will be able to handle more torque than stage 2 but the stock DSG tune found that slight slippage can start around 540nm. With a DSG tune I was told that they can increase the clutch clamping by 40-50% which would easily stop any slippage. That's just one of my main reasons for getting it, along with much better drivablitly in D mode and Race mode. Does lots of improvements from reading Harding Performance website, APR TCU description etc.

I am personally getting the Harding Performance DSG tune as I have had a number of discussions with them and my local tuner Dean at Fast Stuff and I'm very satisfied with their information regarding it and they could confirm definite increase in clutch clamping and have nothing but positive reviews on thier tunes on previous platform.

Then I will be all set for when APR DP and stage 2 released (later in year) to complete my list of mods!

I'm also like you and not planning on using LC anytime soon to protect DSG and not practical to use it in normal daily driving anyway.

I've heard the same thing and spoken to another person with same information. I'm confident that it's not traceable either but it seems frowned apon to say that without being 100% positive. Totally agree APR tune is great and stage 2 and DSG tune and should be totally awesome!

I would have been led to believe that releasing a car that had faulty turbos was frowned upon but ohwell, for a car that is the 40th anniversary of an icon you would think that the build quality would be a ****load higher but unfortunately it isnt

At the end of the day it's still just a Volkswagen, not a Merc or BMW or Audi.

Audi is the same car and for bmw you pay 75k for a basic 3 series with no options

Stage 1 is reasonably easy to revert to stock as it's just software bits and bytes. However when you go stage 2 and change exhaust systems there's more involved to revert to stock. There will also be tell-tale signs that things have been done as all the exhaust fixings will be clean/had spanners on them rather than a stock car which likely won't have been touched since leaving the factory.

If you modify suspension and wheels etc then more often they'll also suspect that you've also done some performance mods also. 90% of the time they'd be right

I mean stock 7R 5s 0-100 is heaps on public roads yet stg 1 is still needed to go to and from Westfield carparks [emoji14]

The Golf R Wagon appeals to my head, more so than my heart. I find the looks of the hatch more compact, hence more go-kart like. But man, that extra boot space would be handy!

There were criticisms a few years ago that the wagon was based on a previous, outdated platform, rather than the current one (hence the handling was not as good) . Does anyone know if that is the case here?

It doesn't have to be the same. There are plenty Merc and BMW models which are worst than VWs.

I'm pretty sure it's now based off new platform and the couple of reviews I read stated it even handled better than the hatch in their opinion. The slightly longer platform helped it to handle even better through corners.

I'm not a fan of wagons but can definitely see the appeal and advantages to the extra room.
