Just as another option on a forum elsewhere on the web someone has done this:
I had Focal KRX2's installed the front and Focal 165KRC's in the rear powered by 2 x Focal FP2.350 amps. the amps fit behind behind the drawer next to the steering wheel and I can tell you the sound is out of this world.

One of the best installers in Brisbane used to be Northfeild Car Sound, i am sure they could do a similar setup. I like this design as you don't loose boot space and it would have a better front end but far more limited base (and you have to do plenty of non reversable stuff to your car.

Bought M7 R and gave my GTI to the girlfriend. Happy with everything about the R EXCEPT the suspension - can be too harsh on crappy Qld roads. Anyone with experience with changes ? will it help to change to 18inch rims.

Even on Comfort mode? I did find the tyre pressure was almost 50PSi after picking up my car. Dropping it back to 38 made a big difference. Certainly 18in wheels with a 45 profile tyre would make it a little more comfortable. Just be careful changing suspension components - you will often need the original equipment to pass a roadworthy.

Really? I'm in Byron and we have about the worst roads in NSW and i think the R is amazing considering its running 19s on sports suspension. I have driven a lot of cars and i don't think i have ever felt anything straddle the divide of "almost no roll in corners" with "comfy hitting bumps" better. It is FAR comfier than the last C class merc i drove while having less roll than the last porsche boxter i drove (both older models).

Its no camry, but did your expect it to be? Pretty much every professional reviewer has raved about how good the suspension is.

Completely agree. My previous car was a Passat R36 without adaptive suspension and the ride was brutal in comparison to the 7R in Comfort mode. Even in Race mode the 7R ride feels far more liveable than how I remember the R36 ride as being.

I had a Subary Liberty 3.0R-B a few years back, which was Subaru's version of "family car + sports suspension = sports car" which had Bilstein suspension, and while it cornered OK, the ride was brutal on the roads around here. Three years on Byron Shire roads and the car was just a box of rattles.

Having driven the M7 GTI for a year and driving the R back to back with that the difference is markedly noticeable, even in the Comfort settings. Read about all the reviews before buying, just didn't expect this. Dropped the tyre pressures a bit, but no real improvement. Still no deal breaker - the rest is fantastic.

Hamish at Elite Finish does rims. Not sure if he does his own or if he gets someone in to do them for him.
I also feel your pain. I've bumped my front left rim on my new Touareg a couple times now... You kick yourself each time you do it!!!

Yes ruined my day. Nothing worse then self inflicted scratches. Reverse parking while talking to some one on the mobile (hands free of course) is beyond my abilities these days.

I got a pretty good deal on my fully optioned manual R (I'll divulge after getting the car #paranoid ) but quite a bit miffed that I have to pay $99 for the slimline plates (NSW) when I've told them that I'm bringing over my own (Euro plates). At the very most, I'd expect to have to pay whatever plate reassignment fees are...

Asked the dealer and they said "they have to charge $99 for the plates irrespective of what plates I want on the car because that's how much RMS charges for them just to register a new car"... does that sound right? There's a separate "Registration fee" of $339

Is there a thread where people are posting what they paid for their Mk7 R's new? I'd be interested to hear what the best deals are but I am unable to locate this thread if it exists, especially keen to find out deals for cars with no options and manuals.

I paid $60k for mine fully optioned white DSG. What about you?

I call bull****. You shouldn't have to pay a fee for the plates if you're bringing your own. Give the RMS a call.

Has anyone here put a lip on the Golf R? I see their is a company on Facebook selling front lips (non carbon) for around $300. I don't mind the look on the white Golf R7
