Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Guys here is my response to the private messages regarding my purchase hope this helps others

Got mine for $69,000 + but well under $70,000 performance package , metalic paint sunroof , window tint ( no cost )

Personally assistance package for nearly $2000 including GST + the folding mirrors are a bit of a waste id rather get the sunroof way better for resale etc

Promised the dealer that i would not be specific as to exact price .

My will be a 2014 year model plated and manufactured .

Did not see the point in getting a 2013 plated manufactured car delivered around the 23rd of december .

When selling even though its very late 2013 it is still considered and valued as a january 2013 valued car lol

The Upcoming Golf R may be around $65,000 however i prefer to pay a few more $$$$$ and get the quality build of the Audi

    Hope this helps

    Michael

When I took one semi-kitted out for a test drive almost 2 years ago (dealer demo) it had $72K(drive away as already registered) price tag on it (leather, dsg, nav, roof, 19", dcc, dynaudio).. I was shocked given base RRP was $49K...

          • I.m tipping $55k plus on roads for a pretty well loaded R (would have to be this when base S3 with most key goodies is $60k)

The Mk6 R was more expensive than the S3 when it was first released in the UK.

                • The S3 will be $59,990 plus on roads. Can't see how the Golf R is going to compete with that unless it has much more standard gear on it. The S3 will also be here months before the R so will get an advantage there as well. My dad was going to get another R but is now pretty much set on the S3. I went from my GTI to an A250 Merc for basically the same money. I think VW have been a bit too successful for their own good and are taking the market for granted. I would have never seen myself jump ship after 2 GTI's and dad either but the more premium brands are somehow dropping their prices whilst VW push theirs up.

                  • Yes, VW would basically need to fully option out the Golf R, and sell it at $55k as the S3 at $59 990, the standard inclusion has everything you would need.

And the official release date for the S3 sportback is next week, 9th of Dec!

Where does that put the Performance Pack GTI? I can see why they are hesitating.

Why does it need something which
                                doesn't ride as well,
which sticks to you in hot weather,
                                which breaks all the time,
which can be done by a $150 tomtom and
                                which adds extra weight?
