Looking for some advise on servicing my 7.5 golf r DSG. Apologies as I'm sure this has come up before but Im struggling to find R specific info, maybe I dont need R specific info but I am a little precious about my car and this is its first service.

Should I get the car serviced at the dealer?
The closest dealer doesn't offer pickup or drop off even though I'm less than 5km away, want to charge $25 for a loan car when they are charging $452 for the service on a car I spend $60k on with them last year.
I just find this to be pretty poor customer service for the price they are charging when all the independents offer me a loan car or pick up/drop off and the service cost is substantially lower.

I'd probably go with the dealer regardless of any perceived discounts you might get from the independents. I swore I'd not go to the dealer for services when VWA withdrew the Dynaudio from my particular model, but during warranty I want to leave them no excuses whatsoever to give me a hard time for any claims I might need to make. It might also affect resale later if you get a super fussy buyer who would use non-dealer services as a bargaining tool. There's a lot of them around, for sure.

19s and pothholes

Guys ... with more rain over the last few weeks, and more potholes to crash through, I'm just keen to see if any R's with 19's have actually suffered suspension or rim damage from potholes. I can't believe the noise and feel I get thru the chassis from potholes is not somehow related to at least some wheel alignment problems later on.

Would 245's fit on 18x8.5's ? I'm really keen on going wider if I'm going back to 18's, and don't forget the sidewalls will still be taller than stock. Keeping the rolling diameter as close as possible would be good too. Asking too much ?

245s will be ok on 8.5 no problems.

If it's a big enough pothole there is a risk for sure, that's why I'd be sticking with OEM or branded rims and not the cheap crap all the discount mobs sell.

Anyone with Conti 5P tyres on their Golf R noticed reduced grip on wet roads as the tyres aged ?

I got a lot more cornering slippage tonight than I recall when the car (and tyres) were new. Admittedly it was the first rain we've had for a while so the rain probably hadn't washed the roads clean, but still was nowhere near as secure cornering as I remember.

My R has only done 11,000km and the tyres have at least 80% tread still and are less than 2 years old, so I was a bit (unpleasantly) surprised.

Makes me think I'll be buying some new Michelin PS4S tyres sooner than I was planning. I might just hold off for a little while and see what sort of reviews the not-yet-released Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tyres get once they are available and tested. Looks like they are targeted directly at the MP4S market. Unless they are clearly superior (particularly in the wet) I will most likely buy a set of MP4S's as I've had good results with Michelin tyres over the years.

Anyone got suggestions of good tyre installers in the Canberra area ? (I'd really like to keep my Prets unscratched).

I had the park brake auto hold on my golf r my18 stay on today in traffic. Very embarrassing. I had to turn the car off then on again for it to release the ((P)) on my dash. Is this a known fault that service can fix?

I just bought myself a Mk7.5 R Grid with driver assist pack. Loving it. But have a few questions the manual in the glove box doesn’t seem to have answers for. At least not that I could find.

1) Drive modes. In Individual, my MY18 now has different options to any YouTube videos I can find. Has anyone got a source of information that explains in detail what every single option means and does. Some of them are bleeding obvious. But others not so much. For example the cornering lights. What’s the diff between normal eco and race! Likewise for ACC options. And some of the others I find not so obvious.

2) Related to my above query, is the engine noise artificial in the cabin of a MY18 thru the speakers ....or real? You can change the modes in individual settings but am I just changing the speakers or is it the actual exhaust?

3) Is there a way to have cruise control active without radar? I can’t work this one out.

4) Lane keep assist, does it detect whether you’ve indicated to. Hanger lanes or not and correct your lane based on indicator on or off?

ive had a rim replaced before from hitting a pothole and bending it... was making a funny noise when driving at a certain speed haha... luckily i took it in to a tyre shop on the last day i had wheel and rim insurance and they replaced it for me no cost... would have been p'd off if i had to pay for it

So while i know most people want to get their R’s lowered, I need to get mine raised as it won’t get up my driveway.

Does anybody have any recommendations as to how ho might be able to do this?

The engine noise is artificial from a device that vibrates at the base of the front windshield called a soundaktor .
As for Lane Assist it won't try and correct you if you have indicated.

Not that I know of. You can adjust the following distance from the car in front, which might help.

I'm quite happy with how it works on my R, about the only thing I don't like is how it slows you down gradually if the car in front also slows down gradually - if I'm not paying attention I can end up going slower than I intended (yeah, I know, my fault for not paying attention).

I have a Mk7.5 GTI so I assume the cruise control (CC) system in the R is the same.
Pressing the CC Mode button on the left side of the steering wheel cycles the CC between "Adaptive Cruise Control" and "Speed Limiter".
Speed Limiter mode operates as a conventional cruise control.
Page 162 of the user manual.

R wagon DAP option includes Park Assist?

Please clarfiy this:

Can any 2018/2019 7.5 R wagon and Grid R wagon owners confirm or deny if the DAP option includes Park Assist?

I am sure that VW states that the R does not get Park Assist.

But Australian Car Reviews says yes it does. Of course they could be wrong.

The welded connection of the rear seat bench may not have been correctly connected.
