  • Best bang for buck mods 7.5 GTI

    Hi guys

Getting into a new to me 7.5 GTI and can't wait to hit the mod list.

I've gone through a few threads already but was hoping to consolidate the list in one post.

Feel free to list any must-have mods below.

I'm also a sucker for the DSG pops, bang and f-arts - can this be achieved with an upgraded exhaust? Looking at turbo back non-res system - Milltek maybe?

    Thanks in advance.

    Congrats on the new car.

Unfortunately the 7 speed DSG used in the 7.5 GTI does not fart during gear changes like the older 6 speed DSG used in the Mk5/Mk6/Mk7. It still makes some noise, but the older 6 speed DSG is king for DSG farts.

Must have mods - people will have different opinions and it also depends on your budget, but mine are below:

    - lower engine mount insert (also called a dogbone mount insert). Get one of the aluminium ones like 034 Motorsport. These greatly reduce wheel spin and axle tramp on heavy acceleration. These are <$200.
    - if you are keeping the stock rims, then consider some wheel spacers to push the rims out further which makes the car visually look better.
    - an ECU / TCU tune.
    - an intake to hear turbo noises
    - you already mentioned an exhaust. Milltek are nice quality. Personally I like the CTS exhaust because I like the way it looks and sounds on the Mk7 (its one of the quieter options). A non-res Milltek will be quite loud but I believe with Milltek you can buy the resonator section separately if you decide you want it at a later stage.

Lucas pretty much nailed it. A quick ECU/TCU tune, the dog bone mount and intake and you'll be quite happy. It will be alright on the stock intercooler, but consider upgrading in the future to keep temps down.

Maybe a GFB diverter valve? The one I'm getting you can adjust how much noise it makes. A turbo muffler delete will give you some more sound under the bonnet as well.
