Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Lost an OEM wind deflector

I was doing a short highway drive the other day when it seemed that something had hit my car, out of nowhere. I was cursing my bad luck to be hit by some random object while driving along etc.

At my destination I noticed some marks on the roof and a few days later I washed and detailed the car and managed to remove the marks.

At some point in the detail work I realised I had one less wind deflector. The passenger rear was gone. So now I realised it wasn't a random hit that I could have avoided by leaving at a different time, the deflector ripped off the car on the highway!

Has anybody heard of this before?

To add insult to injury when I went to order another rear set I discovered that the OEM deflectors are NLA, nobody had any in the country that I could find.

In the end I got the part number and ordered one from Deutsche Auto Parts that should be here soon.

I'll certainly be keeping an eye on these in the future.

Most OEM wind deflectors are just held onto the rubber with double sided tape, so eventually they will come off. I assume the OEM ones for the Mk7 are also held on this way?

Perhaps consider the Team Heko wind deflectors which slide into the window frame and are held on more securely. I had these for a few years on my Mk7 and didn't have any issues with them. Slim-line Weather Shields - Volkswagen Golf MK7/MK7.5 5 Door Hatch 12-

I was pleased when I got them to see they went into the channels rather than stuck on with tape, and I've put them on the front of our Polo, no OEM rears, and an aftermarket set for my mother's Kamiq, not sure if Skoda have OEM for that car now.

So I was also surprised at what happened, it's been over two years I'm sure.

Never had any of the stuck on type fall off unless I wanted to remove them.

Something to keep an eye on. I fitted the replacement today, so the car looks uniform again.
