7.5R Licence plate LED

Hi has anybody upgraded their licence plate light to an aftermarket LED on a 7.5R? If so, did they use the ballast/ Canbus decoder box that comes with it, as I have also disconnected it without any issues.
The led set I purchased just indicates that it fits MK 5/6/7/7.5.

Does your car not have LED numberplate lights as standard? My 2015 Golf GTI does.

If you feel the need to upgrade to brighter lights, the ones offered by Stedi look good and come with a little box to keep the Canbus system happy.

If you got them from SuperNova VW Golf Mk5/6/7/7.5 License Plate LEDs
– Supernova Lighting they work very well. Much much brighter than stock and easy enough to fit. I have them on my 7.5 R

Yep, I got it from supernova.
Did you use the black box that came with it?
I didn’t as I thought it may move around in the bumper

It works with and without the box 🤷🏼

IMO those Supanova ones are far too bright and too be honest look a bit ridiculous from behind. They look like you have 2x spotlights shining onto the numberplate.

If you are using the lights without the Canbus resister box then you will probably get a bulb warning error at some stage because the Supanova lights will be a lower wattage than the factory 5w or 10w bulbs.

The little box is double side taped to the inside of the bumper.

Pretty bright but I don’t mind it.
I’ve just mounted both boxes by 3m tape just then 👍
