  • DSG (7 speed) jumping out of gear on take off

    Hey folks,

I've just bought a 7.5 Wolfsburg R wagon. Certified used with 25,000km on it. Love it but have noticed an intermittent issue where the car 'jumps out' of gear on take off from a standing start. By 'jumps out' I mean it's as though someone has knocked the car into neutral for 1-2 seconds (I lose all drive and the engine free revs) before slotting back into gear (usually second).

It seems to happen when I'm manoeuvring between R and D.

Thoughts? The car is out of factory warranty (expired May) but is supposedly covered by some kind of factory-backed 12 month used warranty (presumably limited).

I'm located in Brisbane and given I've had the car about 3 weeks would appreciate a steer on any decent dealers/service centres (keeping in mind the warranty)

EDIT: this was resolved - just needed software update

Used car warranty is usually through the selling dealer and can vary a lot (unless you are lucky enough to be covered by the official VW extended warranty). Have a good look at your warranty doco (especially the fine print) to see what cover you have and what conditions apply.

It's the factory certified warranty: Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty

Who's the pick of dealers in Bris?

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago - 7.5 R would intermittently jump into neutral for a couple of seconds pulling away from a stop (eg: on the change from 1st->2nd).

DSG required a software update (sorry don't have the TSB/TPI number anymore). After the update it has been flawless.

Depends on where you are based. In central Brisbane, probably Austral in Newstead. They have been excellent recently on my waterpump issue, although I have previously (many years ago now) had an issue there with a service. Further north, I'd say Cricks on the Sunshine Coast. I have no real experience with dealers on the South side I'm afraid.

Don't forget you also have a consumer statutory warranty.
