Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2013 TDI Golf - lost heating

Back story: heater core pipe was found to be leaking and was replaced at regional VW dealership. Pressure tested to be fine.

Picked up the car last week and noticed the heater no longer works. Still blows cold air just fine, but zero heat. The mrs also notices gurgling sounds when she turns off the car. Temperature gauge still sits on a constant 90c when running.

They have offered to pay for it if the instance it was something they did but at my expense if not, at my local VW which upfront charges $195 for a diagnostic.

Wondering if anyone has guidance on what could cause this, and if it was likely something the "repair" did?

Anyone in VIC that has a VCDS tool i could borrow to scan any codes?

Just would rather take it to my local euro specialist if it's not related, but obviously if it is would take it back to VW.

    Thanks!

Probably didnt bleed air out of it properly Take it for a run get it hot, turn heater to hot and sit it in thew garage with top off coolant bottle overnight. If there is air in it you will hear it bubbling quietly

Tried doing that yesterday, took off the cap and coolant shot out everywhere, almost burnt my hand! Is that normal?

Whilst I had the cap off didn't notice any bubbling, but the level kept going up and down

Going up and down sounds like air park it turn it off and then remove cap till morning.. Never take cap off when running

Yeah....read somewhere that's how you can self bleed it, cap off whilst the car is running.

          Will give it a go

Dealership think its a blocked heater core.

Could also be the flaps that control whether cold air or hot air is sent to the vents.

If it was working OK before then IMO that is more likely than a blocked heather matrix. Is the silica bag in the coolant bottle still intact ? (when they burst they block the heater matrix).
