Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Engine rev limit warning and EPC error

I have been getting random warnings on the dash for engine rev limit and EPC after i recently installed a new battery (AGM). The car has been driving normal whenever i got these warnings. Today for the first time the engine actually struggled to rev above 3-4rpm limit, like it was stuck in gear, and i did notice some power loss.

Has anyone experienced similar to this? Was it electronic or manifold issue for you?

    I have the Mk7 2015 Golf R auto DSG.

    Any replies are greatly appreciated.

Did you code the new battery in as you are supposed to , or just chuck it in and hope

Have a look to see what error codes have been recorded, that might point you towards where the cause of the problem is.

@Simon134: Hi. "Today for the first time the engine actually struggled to rev above3-4rpm limit"? Shirley that can't be true? Is there a "K" missing -perhaps (or a factor of 100 - maybe)?

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

Yes, i got the mechanic who installed the AGM battery to re-scan and he supposedly updated the software? And he cleared all the errors.

Hi i got a EPC warning light today and pulled over after about 15 min of driving and restarted and revved a little and the light turned off . If i hold my foot down the car seems to only rev to around 4500 its some sort of rev limit when not in gear .

Normal behaviour for a modern VW.

                  Supposedly

Ask him if he recoded the battery as it isnt an upgrade of software

Its to stop idiots redlining/over revving it when not in gear

The Epc light came back on after 10min of driving and is staying on and the car feels like its lost most of its power and struggles to maintain speed on hills . I'm taking it in Monday the 8th for a scan at my local mechanic. Fingers crossed it won't cost too much to fix .

Far better to take it to VW who have the correct scanner for their cars

Did you get the car scanned?

                          What did they find?
                          All fixed now?

Had it scanned by VW and they said the cam shaft valve adjuster needs to be replaced, easy job $150 but they also said the water pump needs replacing as its not allowing the proper levels of coolant to flow, $1400 for this.

$1400 for the lot would be enough
