Hi Everyone, after a visit to the dealer and few phone calls , found out that
Both cars gearbox are the same and it’s a 6spd Dsg not 7.

So the mechatronics and the gearbox are the same parts numbers !!

Will be doing the swap very soon.

Also found out that a auto transmission shop nearby do recode them for $165 !

They are called Wangara Automatic transmissions .

So happy today after this news .

        Original post = OP

Ypur a braver man than me. I attended a few flood/hail damaged auctions and decided that it was too risky.

Thanks mate , I had some bad experience in the past . Have to persevere to be lucky sometimes !

Been so busy with work , and bad weather raining everyday here in Perth , haven’t been able to work on the cars .

This weekend looking good so far, will post some updates and photos .

              Today’s update :

Donor car : engine and Gearbox removal.

I took the front end last week , so I didn’t have any photos .
              Anyway here we go ;

The tools made my life so easy that I can’t praise them enough : firstly
              Milwaukee Stubby impact gun.

If you can afford the Milwaukee m12 stubby impact 3/8 , don’t hesitate guys , go for it as it’s so practical in tight spaces and even remove your wheel nuts with a breeze !!

Few other tools I would strongly recommend:
              Photos below too.

Kinchrome impact set 3/8 sockets .
              Kinchrome extendable 3/8 ratchet
Hex, Tori’s and spline sockets .
              Universal joint impact

This turned out to be an effortless job , of course if you have some good mechanical experience .

I didn’t really go in details about locations of bolts , etc.. but if you need any info , I can help .

Also I didn’t use engine crane/ hoist as I had a short pallet which was almost the height of the drop down. So I just unbolt all the mounts slowly and it sat smoothly on the it . I was indeed worried about the plastic sump but no issues.

The gearbox looked alright when I separated it from the engine.

Took the starter motor off: dried mud everywhere ??? Photos below

Clutch packs looks very dirty .
Gearbox survived as all the seals was in good shape ( I hope, until I swap it over my Repairable GTI.

Apart from surface rust on the cv joints housing . Everything looks ok , will do a proper wash down of the parts soon.

Any suggestions , please let me know.

              Cheers
              After a days work!!

                Welcome back SamK,
And well done. I did a front cut of a 20v Twin Cam Corolla back in day! Similar approach. I have the same floor jack. Torx tools too.

I would spray some aerosol contact cleaner into all the wiring connectors etc and use a compressed air to dry them then spray them again.

I would also apply some allumimium cleaner to the exterior alloy parts that look corroded by pollutants.

                Cheers Al

Go down to bunnings and buy a 5L of shellight its cheap and will clean all your electrical connections and any mud residue as well, drys with no residue and wont harm plastics, aluminium or rubber, just use it in a pump pack and go to town cleaning.

Thanks Guys , bought the aerosol contact cleaner last week, will be giving a good clean this week . I’m thinking of doing pressure cleaning on the external side .

Will give this shellight a try and see how’s that comes up.

Now will do the swap over this week.
And will post more photos soon!

I'm not sure if the newer models are different but we changed the complete gearbox in my wife's 2010 Jetta to a different code gearbox from a 2007 Jetta and no coding was needed.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

                        Yep mqb gearboxes have security.
If swapped to another vehicle it will lock. Needs ODIS online access to unlock it.

                            Hi Folks:

                            Here are the Updates :

                            Body works completed .

Gearbox has been successfully unlocked by Kamold ! Mate hats off to you buddy [emoji1360] for all the support and to steer me in the right direction !

After the coding procedure last night .

Took it for a quick 2 min spin round the block !

Wow [emoji44], it pulls and farts , etc.. I was impressed . What a car and it’s so smooth ! I have driven a fair amount of cars in my life but the comfort and refinement you get in a German car is something else .

For some reason , I felt this is more quicker than a MK6 R which I drove few weeks ago .

                            Still have to finish :

LHS Headlight front bumper to bolt on.

Now I had an issue with the LHS headlight.

The headlight I bought from gumtree was without any modules which I paid $500 ( cheap ) about couple of months back before I bought the donor car .

It worked when I tested it for only 1 minute or so . I thought everything was fine but Now it doesn’t want light up at all both low beam and high beam, just led strip works .

Swapped the right hand side modules and turned out the same problem. Also the cornering features of the headlight didn’t work.

Kept getting an error on the dash.

What I did , i tried the donor car LHS headlight complete with the modules which had a bit of moisture damage , and it lit up partially !

So again , scratching my head and I was confused if this was a coding issue or malfunction, damage.

Already thinking of the cost of new headlight is astronomical [emoji20].

After a while I tried the original bottom module which had few broken brackets and connected it to the donor car Headlight , it worked !!!!!!!

So today I have dropped it to AutoVis in Wangara WA ( Headlight restorer) which he will try to clean the inside where it has gone foggy.
He said these headlights are sealed units , he will try his best .

                            Hopefully will get it tomorrow!

I’m hoping to finish putting everything back on the weekend and will book an inspection next week with the approved provider to do the checks then pits !

Can’t wait to for the car to be licensed !!!

                            Few photos below :
