Hi yes I know some people will come back and say this is illegal in the uk? but I like the look! can anybody help with this Vcds coding off the above item of turning off dlrs in lights. and turning on fog lights as dlrs? on mk7 gti pp. any help would be good! thanks. I have access to vag-com/Ross.tach.
Paul: hmm... OK - no gratuitous advice about compliance with the local road rules (I actually don't know if fog-lights are illegal in UK when there is no atmospheric mist).
For your question - consider the following:
Fire-up VCDS software, connect to the dongle and go-to the 09-Cent. Elect. control module. Then go-to Security Access - 16 and enter the magic number 31347. Then go-to Adaptation - 10
The 2 x Leuchte-sets for the front fog-lights are Leuchte12NL LB45 (left-side) and Leuchte13NL RB5 (right-side)
Usually, the only function that is factory programmed for these lights is the fog-light facility itself. But- sometimes the car is factory-set to also operate Static-AFS (which is VW's name for the cornering-light CAN bus function)
So, first - look @ the adaptation channels Leuchte12NL LB45-Lichtfunktion B 12 and Leuchte13NL RB5-Lichtfunktion B 13. If the settings for these channels is not active - simply change these to Tagfahrlicht and that's all that should be required
If the existing settings for the 2 x adaptation channels above are Abbiegelicht links/rechts (this is the AFS setting) do the following:
Leuchte12NL LB45-Lichtfunktion C 12 > Tagfahrlicht
Leuchte12NL LB45-Dimmwert CD 12 > 100
Leuchte13NL RB5-Lichtfunktion C 13 > Tagfahrlicht
Leuchte13NL RB5-Dimmwert CD 13 > 100

PS:Tagfahrlicht = Daytime Running Lights on newer VCDS software
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

We have a problem in Aus with w*******rs that run fogs during the day which not only is illegal but they flare all over the place and are nothing but a nuisance..
You like the look Do you stand in front of your car and admire it while everyone else hates the lights flaring like the sun.

Passat Comfortline with halogen lights uses fog lights as DRL’s as standard behaviour. It is what it is.
Yes but they are properly focused lights not just suns in a housing like some of them
what leads you to suspect the op’s lights are any different? They too could very well be properly focussed and not cause an issue. In fact I suspect that on some models of golf, the fog lights are also used as drl’s

This does from the OP " turning off dlrs in lights. and turning on fog lights as dlrs?"

Until they go over even the slightest rise in the road and cause unnecessary glare for oncoming traffic.

so many road users must be cursing Volkswagen then....because plenty of models use the fog lights as drl’s.
I think we are talking about different things here Cars like Falcadoors etc drive around all day with bright lights which are fogs but are called "other" lights to get around the legislation.
DRLs are usually low power marker lights NOT 21W paint burning orbs of blinding light that you do see
The VW models that have fogs/Drl's are usually lower powered and not as obtrusive.
My highline Passat had Led DRL's and fogs and turn lights in the lower bumper.
The lower grade ones have lights down there as well that seem to be like park lights and are no where near as bright as the Falcadoors eyball searing idiot lights.
Are you positve they are the fogs or are they lower power and the fogs come on brighter in the manner of rear brake/stop lights

I don't usually worry too much about fogs during the day as very few are bright enough to dazzle me because my pupils are normally reasonably constricted from sunlight.
Badly adjusted fogs at night when the weather is clear is a totally different ball game - I hate them with a passion ! Dazzle city just because the driver either thinks they "look cool" or because they believe the extra light helps them see better (they don't).
And while I'm having a rant, what's with all the 4WDs and SUVs with really dazzling lights causing issues for other drivers. Are they all just badly adjusted or are the owners installing LED globes that don't work properly with the optics ?

Simplified description - there are 4 x 35w lamps the lower fascia of my wife’s car. They serve the tasks of drl, cornering lamp, and fog lamp.
I run the LED fogs in my GTI as DRLs and coming home lights. They aren't anywhere near as bright as the halogens.
I've driven past police in NSW and QLD many times and not a single one has mentioned anything. Where as I was asked to turn the fogs off in my Falcon at a RBT once. Even though I was driving through fog between Armidale and Coffs Harbour...
Hi don thanks for your info. I coded the vcds with the information you provided and the fog lights come on with the dlrs in the light cluster! is there any way of removing the dlrs from the light-cluster? and only running fogs as dlrs? thanks. Paul.
