Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf R Wolfsburg engine issues

    Hi All
I own a 2017 Wolfsburg wagon and in the last 4 weeks I’ve had three occasions where the gears seem to be slipping while driving at only say walking speed as I start to accelerate. When I accelerate gently (once to drive up a ramp in a shopping centre, the other leaving a Petrol station), the gear slips and the engine revs up (the S or D in the centre of the left dial disappears for about a second). I then brake and can drive away as normal? Has anyone had this before or have any ideas?
And then today while sitting idle in the car with the engine on, a tapping noise started to occur. I turned the engine off and as the car was cooling down the tapping noise kept occurring. It didn’t happen again for the rest of the day. Has anyone had the happen before? Thanks

Might be worth doing some searches for faulty gear selector, I don't know whether that is relevant your issue or not, but it does seem to be a common fault. It often starts out intermittent, then progresses to being more frequent. Most reports have mentioned an error msg regarding selecting park.

Was the tapping sound like hot metal contracting as it cooled down ? I haven't heard it on my W'burg wagon, but have heard it on other cars, particularly if the engine or brakes have been worked hard just before switching off.
