Hi Guys
I have done a lot of mod's to my alltrack in the year i have owned it
Golf R brakes
Pompanazzi Paint protection/correction
Rear sway bar and linkages
New 19 inch Brecia wheels
ect ect
Now for the big one a tune on the 135kw diesel motor and DQ381 gearbox
Ok impressions of the motor as stock (135kw and 380 nm flywheel)(100kw and 285nm wheels)
Power(kw) 1st power was good you felt it kick in about 3500 and pull to 4000 but was a waste to rev it harder than that as it ran out of puff and you could feel the car not accelerating and more even as you pushed the revs
Torque(nm) Impressive would be the word i would use torque from 2000 to 3000 was very meaty and gave you a good push roll on acceleration in 3rd and 4th was good indeed
There was a bit of a plateau between 3000 and 3500 before full kw kicked in but not to bad
I would rate it as a good to very good motor with strong torque and a willingness to rev to 4k much better than my old 103kw/320nm mark 6 diesel which had good torque but not much in the way of power
Tuned (approx 165kw and 470nm flywheel)(121kw and 360nm wheels)
So a about 20% increase at the wheels which was very good
Driving it felt like a new motor had been put in the car!
Ok Torque 1st
Nothing is noticeable before 2k after that tho wow oh wow the torque wall is huge all the way from 2000 to 3200 just feels like a huge rush pinning you back in the seat put's a smile on my face everyday
Had a friend drive it and he said it "want's to go at 2k you can feel it wanting to go it's straining at the bit"
Massive fun to drive the pull in 3rd and 4th is just amazing (5th as well but that's way over license losing speed)
Power
Tbh i expected the increase in torque from all the research i had been doing online
What i did not expect was the power increase it makes the max power of the old motor at 2700rpm instead of 3500rpm
also having nearly 50kw more atw at 4200rpm when the stock motor has run out of puff
It revs like a insane nutter all the way to 4600rpm and makes power to there as well if you floor it in 1st away from the lights it launches so hard and makes this insane growl from 3500 to redline
I get about 6.2sec to 100kph down from about 7.5
The pull out of corners is great and in the wet i can get a 4 wheel slide going very nice indeed
So in summery if your thinking about tuning your ea288 diesel DO IT the results are amazing
Oh btw i got a tune not a box and run on a dyno to get before and after figures so no fudgery involved
Also got my dq381 tuned at the same time to increase clamping on the plates and remove the torque limiter
Fuel economy is quite good as well 6.8ltr/100 if i drive conservatively ,7.3 long term and 8 if i boot it everywhere
I used Underground Performance in moorabbin (south east suburbs of melbourne)
Highly recommend them did a great job
