Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • High mileage 103TDI- worth buying one with over 200k on the clock?

Hey guys, I’m new to this forum and currently looking at buying a Golf Mk6 diesel. It’s a 2010 103TDI with over 200,000 on the clock, but it was a company car with mostly highway kms and it has a full service history.

Anyone out there have high mileage 103TDIs and want to share their experiences?

Any known issues to look out for when test driving?

Any recommendations of a good diesel mechanic around Melbourne who knows VWs for a thorough and honest pre-purchase inspection?

With the DSG transmission is there a way of checking it's not playing up?

    Thanks in advance!

    Sam

My wife's 2010 Jetta 125 TDI has just on 240,000k's. My recently purchased Skoda Octavia Scout has just clicked over 180,000k's. We would not be intending to sell either one any time soon. I wouldn't baulk at one so long as the price reflected the mileage.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

And has full service history, either VW or independent. Not just the garage round the corner.
Understand how it works, troubleshoot logically BEFORE replacing parts.

Thanks guys, it's reassuring to hear there are high mileage TDIs out there still going strong

I'll be checking the service history thoroughly too. It was a fleet car so had a regular maintenance schedule, hopefully by a decent mechanic...

200k on those engines is no worries at all. check the suspension for wear, but otherwise as long as its been regularly serviced then its all good.
2016 MY17 Polo GTI with DA package. TMD fitted + Weather strip and Snow Screen removed otherwise dead standard.
