I'm sorry that you don't like our suggestions so far because they're not the happy, reassuring answers you were looking for.

The excessive oil consumption of the forced induction VW Group engines is something that many of us just live with it.

No No - I am hear what has been contributed. Just adds to the sad litany of issues I have had with the car in the past 2.5 years.

Reluctant to pass the problems onto someone else but guess thats what needs to be done.

Ah the old twincharged engine oil consumption issue... The primary reason I sold my Polo GTI and went for the Golf GTI. My Polo was using a lire of oil every 1200km. I just got sick of it in the end.

I questioned this with VW who grandly proclaimed that " The VW group allow for 500ml of oil to be consumed every 1,000klm". Am curious to know if this more whitewashing from VW.
I don't get it but then maybe I'm really dense. When I went to school (a very, very long time ago) 2 litres in less than 2,000KM was significantly greater consumption than the 500 ml in 1,000 KM "considered acceptable" by VW.

I'm sure that maths has not changed over the years and by my calculations the evidence is that the engine is using more than the "VW accepted" amount and therefore an oil consumption test would be in order to determine the actual consumption.

Just wondering did you ask for this to be done?

              Cheers

Am looking at booking it in for an oil consumption test next week.

And you are right, 2L in les sthan 2,000Klms is less less than the generous "500ml in 1,000Klm considered accepatable by VW".

At this rate if I kept the car for 100,000Klm I would end up paying around $4,000 for oil - wonder how much of Castrol VW own.

Update - went to the dealer for a consumption test and they ended up feeding the car another litre.

That makes it 3 litres in around 2,500klm.

So much for the 500ml per 1000klm crap.

Just keep taking it back for top-ups. They won't do a consumption test until it's been fully run in (~5,000km).

Hmmm ok that is a bit strange. Yes consumption test seems to be in order.

Latest update with the oil guzzler.

Dealer conducted 2nd part of test last week - this week I get an email saying VW Australia would like to pull the engine apart.

Am I entitled to ask for a new engine? Car is 27 months and 29,000 klm old.

You can ask, but, the way warranties are written it is up to the manufacturer to decide the method of rectification. We don't have "lemon" laws and what consumer laws we do have are a nightmare to navigate.

A new engine is the best you can hope for. Reconditioning the existing engine with a loan car for the duration is the worst under warranty.

This is my nightmare with my 118TSI turning 3 at the end of June...

I had a new gearbox at 6,000klm and am surprised that this latest episode is only 2 years later - not any earlier.

I wonder if an extended warranty is still available to you.

I looked at extended warranty earlier this year. $2500 - $3300 depending on 2 or 3 years and which company. The exclusions list was longer than inclusions and the prices have gone up since. I doubt I could get $20k as a trade in for my car even though it is immaculate inside and out (no one has ever sat on the back seat!). Probably not get $20k private sale (haven't looked into it).

I decided to hold my breath until Christmas and get a new car.
