I've just had my 2012 MK6 103TDI it's 60k service.

A reasonable $650.

The pollen filter wasn't replaced but was told it was spotless and would check again at next service to save me some money.

Used all genuine VW oils and parts.

60,000 km is 4 years.

15,000km per year, 15 = 1 year, 30 = 2 year, 45 = 4 3 year, 60 = 4 year.

Depends where you go, and if its DSG blah blah.

However I see from your little advert signature you have a GTI and it's a DSG. So service book says oil and filter, fuel filter, DSG filter, DSG oil, spark plugs, pollen filter, brake fluid (arguable).

So if you go to a dealer your looking around $1270, give or take afew hundred.

Specialist (make sure they do it all right their not a specialist for nothing) maybe $600-1000

Autotune, autoking, ultra tune, automobile, wing won dodgy mechanics co, probably $100 with crap oil, and all they will do is oil and filter (not good for your car, at all.

Just ensure DSG is done, it gets overlooked alot.

My Mk6 manual GTI has travelled 50,000km and is due for the 48 month service. I’m having difficulty interpreting what is required as per the service schedule.

You seem to be very certain about what is required from your previous post, would appreciate your comments please on the following:

Spark plugs:

• Page 11 says under “every 60,000km” – “Spark plugs replaced – only vehicles with more than 60,000km within 4 years; only 1.2TSI, 1.4TSI, 1.6TSI, as well as Golf R, Scirocco R and GTI with 173kW.

• My interpretation from the above is that I don’t need to replace my spark plugs, since I haven’t done 60,000km within 4 years, and my GTI has 155kW, not 173kW.

• But then page 12 says under “Additionally every 4 years” – Spark plugs replaced – only vehicles with less than 60,000km within 4 years; only 1.2TSI, 1.4TSI, 1.6TSI, as well as Golf R, Scirocco R and GTI with 173kW.

• So based on this statement, I should replace my spark plugs since they’re coming up to 4 years, but then again, my GTI has 155kW, not 173kW?

• I can't see any other reference to spark plugs for a GTI with 155kW?

Fuel filter:

• You indicated in your post that the fuel filter needs to be replaced at the 60,000km mark. But I can’t find any reference to a petrol fuel filter in the service schedule? I can only see references to “Diesel fuel filter”and “gas filter (BiFuel only)”. Have I missed it somewhere?

You have a TSI engine.

You are correct, there is no reference to changing the fuel filter in the manual. I'd recommend you change at either 45k or 60k.

If the book doesn't say 60k for the sparklers then it probably says 90k. In Australia, they do them all at 60k anyway.

You can save a lot of money by purchasing the parts yourself & even more by DIYing but that doesn't suit everyone.

Book is not specific to the Australian market, which has it's own servic schedule.

Air filter every 45K, Plugs and fuel filter every 60K.

That's interesting about the spark plug replacement schedule. I now have a mk7 90..TSI Golf bought new 2 years ago. In June it had its 75,000km service, when the spark plugs were replaced for the first time. I had to wait over a week for the plugs to be supplied as the service centre said they are a different plug from the mk6 90TSI and they still didn't have them. They said mine was the first mk7 to get them replaced. The service which included oil/filter, sump plug, spark plugs and brake fluid change, cost $469. This golf has been the most perfect car I've ever owned too - just can't find a fault in it. Hope it keeps going that way but 75k is a good start.

I need a 60K MY12 TDI DSG service. VW seem pretty consistent in quoting $1500 (tried 3 dealers in Sydney).

I think i'll be going with VW Village for $1K.

I just had my 4 year service done today. I've only got 32500kms on the clock and it cost $678 at Austral here in Brisbane

The service intervals are 15,000kms, or 12 months, whichever comes first.

The fluids do deteriorate and attract moisture with age, so not a bad idea to still stick to some sort of schedule, whether it be time or distance-based.

If you've only done 32,500kms, why does one have to do the 60,000km Service just because it has been 4 years?

Is it really essential? Or just recommended?

I've just put a deposit down on a 5 year old Mk6 GTI that hasn't had a service for 2 years. It was last due mid last year or at 56,000kms. The thing is it has only just done 50,000kms, and so the guy said he didn't bother because he thinks it's just a marketing ploy to get people to service their cars and pay more money even if it hasn't done the millage.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but should I be worried?

It's something that has always confused me.. though I'm sure there's a simple explanation.

You really should get it done as time makes a difference.

I used to be involved in the aircraft industry. We worked on the number of take offs/landings; distance flown and time. During the downturn when we had aircraft parked at the fence, we still had to do some servicing to keep the airframes & powerplants compliant.

If you aren't doing the mileage then you might be able to push the time out 2-3 months. Alternatively, learn to do the minor service yourself.

oil and filter are cheap. labour to investigate an engine problem is not. new engine is not cheap at all!

especially with the mk6 gti tsi engine, i change mine at 6 mths interval, the timing chain tensioner uses oil pressure, if you have sludge... well some of us know what could happen..
