It costs $24 per litre - retail in Melbourne

I did my own 60k service, ~$250 in oils/parts, DSG oil was the biggest cost for sure
(Didn't change brake fluid because I did it last year)

Yeah, don't buy it from the dealer.

There's other places around that sell it.

Febi Bilstein, and one other German brand are re-branded genuine oil. You can pick them up for around $20-$25/litre.

Liqui Moly also claims to have a suitable DSG oil.

Indeed - in EU it's similar price to the OEM oil and the others
(Or to put it the other way, in EU the OEM oil is not twice as expensive as the rest)

I'm thinking of doing this service and wondered - are any special tools needed to change the DSG oil and filter?

Can someone please post a scanned pic of the parts list from a service that shows the parts needed.

                    Cheers, Gordon

I'll post up part numbers of what you need in an hour or so.

Yes, you'll need to rig up some sort of arrangement to gravity-fill the DSG transmission.

Just on this, my local supplier has the LM DSG oil priced on par with the Febi Bilstein stuff at around $25/L.

I've been using it since August last year, and no complaints so far.

Hahaha saw an apprentice leave a bolt loose on that bracket once before too. Was on a 2.0tdi and was dropping power on boost. Found out the knock sensor was going off it's head from all the rattling. That guy still works at a dealer...

That's terrible. I'd be tempted to report them to whatever certification bodies they're registered with. Poor diagnosis is one thing, potentially-dangerous repairs are quite another.
