Glad I changed mine too Silverfoxx, you may recall I switched from GTD to GTI after some discussion here a few months back: whilst waiting for my GTI 2 weeks ago I thought I should just test drive an R on a quiet day off, big mistake The good news is that I've snaffled a privately owned 6 month old Rising Blue R Dsg with plenty of fruit for a great price, can't wait to drive it!

Bummer. Sorry to hear. I dont think i could wait that long. Mine was a factory order and took 4 months - and even that length of time seemed to take forever.

I would compromise on colour / an option or two etc and try to find something already here and get it now.

i think I must agree- took one look at the RB sitting in the car park and the heart fluttered, then when I started her up and I heard the throaty exhaust burble

So true - my previous car was a mildly fettled 200sx which moved along pretty well. When i test drove the R i was quite dissapointed in the performance, as i was expecting more from it.

But a tune makes the world of difference - it goes from being quick-ish to being fair dinkum quick.

Yep, but my enjoyment is haw it is more driveable because there is more "useable" power at the low end and enourmous performance at the top

Ok, so while on the topic of tunes...my R is stock, but I have about 1500 to spend on a tune. I'm sure it's been discussed in other forums, but what tune do y'all suggest?

Have a look here. Plenty of options for around the $1,000 mark, so with the change from your $1,500 budget you can get yourself an intake or downpipe.

Guys, help me get this absolutely straight as I've had an order on an R from Oct last year. They tell me that the only progress up until today is that the order has been logged with the factory.

They 'think' production may start in July. But going by this thread, it's won't.

Can someone please confirm. I'm not waiting until 2013 having ordered in 2011.

Sounds like its simply waiting to be built at the factory. Slowly getting closer to being built as yours moves up the queue. Once a VIN number is allocated the build process is on its way.

When talking to my dealer ~5 wks back he mentioned they were not able to load new orders for Rs until VW could get on top orders already on hand. Orders would instead go onto a wait list until space becomes available. He also mentioned VW is busy working to increase manufacturing volumes inc. building new factory / factories in order to meet global demand which apparently grew ~30% last year alone.

Theres a RB manual Golf R sitting in the Kloster VW showroom in Newcastle today if someone wants it..... Manual, 18's, RCD510, standard cloth seats. Bugger waiting 12+ months for one when theres one sitting there looking for an owner.

If someone wants it, ask for Terry Knight - he is great.
