    They still have not acknowledged anything as far as i understand: It goes with the new GDI combined strategy (which other manufacturers have been using) so emissions based more than anything.

      Yes, I saw the pictures and article about it in ATZ Autotechnology some time ago.

        Euro 6 emission levels are what they claim the changes are made for. makes sense.

          Throttle Body Service

          Hi all,

          Been to a dealership to do my service and been "Highly recommended" to do a "Throttle Body Service" that is not a part of a regular service and being done for an extra fee.
          Am I being taken for a ride or it's a good thing to do once a year (as I've been told)?

              Throttle body/Injector Clean

              Neighour Ray's R32 had the throttle body & injector clean recently for 60,000km/4 year service (R32 has only a bit over 40,000km on odo) on advice from local Sutherland Dealer. Cost about 1hr labour ($130). This with new spark plugs had the R32 more perky through the rev range and notably improved fuel consumption. Ray thinking of getting the spark plugs changed more often, even if he has to go for the cheaper version and renew with greater frequency. For my GTI, Service Manager stated that with direct injection ... the PCV, throttle body and intake tract also blacken up with carbon deposits. I'd imagine for those travelling on frequent short journeys of less than 15 min would be worse off as the motor doesn't heat up enough to burn all the recirculated gunk during warm-up phase. Toyota has had direct injection + port injection for a while now on the Lexus ... which is now filtering down to lesser Toyota & Subaru models.

                If you're really concerned, there are some good fuel system and inlet manifold/upper cylinder cleaners around now.

                Nulon make a product called "Foaming Air Intake Cleaner". It's supposed to be very good at dissolving carbon deposits on inlet tracts and upper valves. You have to spray it down a vacuum port on the inlet manifold whilst running the engine for half a can, then switch off and spray the remaining contents into the inlet manifold and leave for 15 mins. It's about $18 a can from local Auto shop. I've tried it on a BA Falcon with typical rough idle - it's been purring like a kitten for six months or more now...

                If ever Sea Foam becomes available here, it should be as bigger hit as in the US. Though the application and results sound very much like the Nulon product above.

                3M and several other manufacturers make a cleaning system for fuel injected cars which replaces petrol with a cleaning solution connected directly into the fuel rail. You run the engine directly off the solution (which can come as a pressurised aerosol can, or as part of a more sophisticated machine) for 15-45 mins depending on engine capacity until the can is emptied and the engine stalls. This is supposed to thoroughly clean the fuel rail, injectors, valves (for MPI, not DI), cylinders and exhaust. Reduces emissions, restores power, improves fuel economy, all the usual claims.
                This process is relatively new, so can be expensive. Though the 3M system offers simplicity which should make it low cost...
