GTI sounding like a diesel?

Hi Guys,

Still loving and running in my GTI. Its currently at the 950km mark and i've slowly been increasing the revs a bit. The engine has definitely loosened quite dramatically but it sounds very diesel like at the moment. Is this normal?

I find my R does that is you have the air con on.. if you turn it off it settles down

Thanks for the replies guys. Yep drove it again tonight, it is very smooth but hear the occasional rattle when the air con is on. I just didnt realise it was the air con. And it only happens at idle when its hear the colourbond fence! So it must be the sound bouncing off the fence when the air con is on

That's the direct injection you can hear - particularly noticeable ticking noise at idle.

very normal, my mk5 GTI sounds very similar to my parents mk6 2.0tdi at idle.. ticker ticker ticker..

Perhaps Germany is trying to "man up" the petrol cars?

I won't comment for others and I don't mind the sound the GTI makes when it starts up. In my case when my son starts up his Fiat Punto 1.2 diesel its sounds at lot like the GTI just a little deeper and louder. Thankfully once accelerating the GTI sound totally different to the Fiat

The TSI sometimes has this diesel like noise upon startup..

chick: "i didn't know your car was a diesel.."
me: "it's not"
chick: "oh.."

...For me (at idle) pushing the clutch in, shifting into first gear then back to neutral, and releasing the clutch somehow reduces the rattle sound.. Sometimes..
