The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Missing centre caps

ok so this afternoon, the back right centre cap on my detroits came off. A couple of months back, i lost the back left. Does anyone else here have a similar problem? I have never owned a car with this issue befor - i doubt they were stolen as there was no scaring on the wheels

I haven't seen anyone in the MK6 Golf forum complain about this before, but I've seen several people in the 9N3 Polo forum complain about it in the past.

Apparently they're not too expensive from the dealer spare parts dept.

New tyres fitted recently or, wheel balance?

If so, maybe the service provider did not push them 'home' far enough or, lost the retaining clip?

        Otherwise, not sure why sorry!?!

yeah its kinda weird, one minute they are locked tight (when I wash the wheels) and then, not there....

First time, thought someone flogged it, now, I am suspect. Given the car is brand new with only 4000kms....

You could hit up your dealer for replacements for free. See what they say. But I'm pretty sure the replacements are only $6 or something like that.

My sister's MkV Golf lost a cap a couple of weeks ago, but it was cracked, maybe from the recent tyre service it had done. From memory, but might not be right, the price to replace one cap was between $15 - $20

I had this problem on our Jetta. Had all 4 replaced under warranty. I was cleaning the wheels with the high pressure cleaner and the caps came flying out. It was like the caps where pushed in incorrectly from factory and the clips got broken and they where just sitting loosely waiting to fall out.

We try and keep these in stock and order them in about 10 at a time. Its very common on both mk5 and mk6 GTI

                        VW Emblem Wheel Centre Cap

                        Hi All,

Apologies if this has been done before, I did try a search but maybe my searching skills are not up to par.

Someone has either stolen one of my VW Emblem Wheel Caps (MK6 GTI 18" Detriots - although I'm fairly sure most recent VW models all use the smae wheel cap.. am i correct?) or it has popped out. Does anyone know where I can buy cheap genuine replacements?

I've previously had to replace the wheel cap from the same wheel and bought the replacement part from the parts department from my dealer. Not too keen on spending ~$18 again for a piece of plastic.

Seeing as though the same wheel has lost a 2nd wheel cap i'm leaning towards thinking that its coming loose but at the same time the chances of the cap popping out seem slim.. (they're in there pretty snug). Also there's no sign of someone trying to pry it out.. i'm puzzled.. Any one experience these issues?

Any input / directions as to where i can buy genuine replacements (cheaper) is appreciated.

                        N.B Part No. is VW-3B7601171XRW

mate - i had the same problem

Lost all 4 of mine in the first 6 months (actually 5 as a replacement also came out). Was told (whether true or not) that it is the heat from the brakes which make it loose. Sounds kinda BS to me.

Got replacements from my dealer for 3, complained about 1 and paid for one. Since then, (touchwood), nothing has come out.

Strange.....never heard of that before. Although a touch of silicone/adhesive placed at the back of the centre cap (applied with wheel off) should help hold it in place for good.

Weird, I thought the caps were fitted from the reverse side, back of the rim.
