They are a fantastic bargain... I think they look great, especially for the price! I'm sure we can get down to the issue of why they are affecting the AM reception... after all, not everyone's sets are doing it!

Yeh thats a good point that it's not happening to everyone. Due to low cost maybe I should give them ago and hope I'm on the happy side of the 50/50 ledger.

Thanks for letting us know! Did you do anything special with your Resistor Boxes?

If the Radio Ant. isn't in the Shark Fin... where is it?

Nothing special, I just place the units to the outer side of where the led fitting is (left fitting, resistor box on the left, right fitting resistor box on the right) Not strapped in just sitting loose!

Thought I'd try the AM this morning on the way to work. I don't have any problems with the lights on or off. I didn't put my resistor boxes in any special way either.

OK... so, i've tried to track some of this back...

It seems in the past two weeks, about six of us have installed the lights,

Corey, DreamensioN and myself have lights that interfere with AM reception.

Shakespeare, markwid, Brendan_A and Vaku all have the lights fitted and do not interfere!

Hmmm... so I was thinking it might be a batch number thing, except DreamensioN's lights arrived at the same time that markwid and Shakespere's.

I thought it might be a GTI and R thing... but it works / not works across both cars. Thought it might be an LED Tail thing... but, again, can't seem to find a common issue there...

So... basically, I have NO IDEA!!!

I'd love to know the reason for it... and if there is a fix!

Could it be the installation method? How many followed Corey's tip of using double-sided tape and how many "just dangled" the resistor?

Could very well be - if the resistor is "aimed" at the rear windows, it could be generating the interference. Mine is sitting vertical, aimed outwards of the car.

I'll play around with mine tonight. Might even try wrapping the resistors in aluminium foil to see if it "shields" them and make any difference.

Define which surface you consider to be the "front" though and therefore which way it is aiming?



If you define the "back" as the black plastic section facing up in that photo, and therefore the "front" as the opposite side to the back (lol), then mine are facing down (just like that photo) and therefore aimed away from the rear window.

I take it that you have the black plastic facing the front of the car and therefore the "front" aimed out the back.

I could certainly try that orientation - but if someone else who hasn't already taped them in could test these two orientations and report back, I'd appreciate that

Just got an email back from the sellers... they are looking into it! They say it's the first they've heard of it... so I suggest if you have the same problem, email them and let them know!

Also... on your lights, can everyone check which "Batch" they have. My batch are 11-05 (which, I can only deduce means produced on May 2011, denoted with a circle and pen marks through the 05 and 11... obviously). I wonder if this is a batch problem... maybe those who aren't having the problem, but have only just installed them, are from an older batch (11-05 is the latest batch apparently!)... which don't suffer the same problem.

They also asked me to check the OEM units again to see if they also interfered with the AM, which I already had, and don't. Anyways, i've replied to them... and they will apparently get back to me!
