Ok - some very interesting results.

The resistor boxes aren't the problem - it's the lights themselves.

These are the tests I just performed.

R-Dash lights in the Golf R, lights turned on. AM reception in the Golf R = bad. AM reception in the Tiguan parked right next to the R = good.

R-Dash lights in the Golf R, lights turned off = AM reception good in Golf R

R-Dash lights in the Golf R, resistor boxes plugged in, LED lights unplugged, lights turned on. AM reception = good.

R-Dash lights in the Golf R, LED lights plugged in, resistor boxes unplugged. AM reception = bad.

Now here's the interesting thing.

If only ONE of the LED lights is plugged in - AM reception = good.

It only seems to be an issue when both LED lights are plugged in.

I also wrapped up each LED light in a ball of aluminium foil, and it made no difference. I suspect that it's some kind of resonance between the two LED lights that's being put into the wire.

So I had a little play around with the R Dash LED lights.

The actual LEDs can be plugged in either way - by that I mean the plug which goes into the LEDs isn't "keyed", and so it can go in both ways. It's only a 2 pin so it's not overly important. But I did the following:
- Disconnect both, AM fine
- Connect left light plug pins "up", AM fine
- Switch left light plug pins "down", AM fine
- Connect right light plug pins "down", AM interfered.
- Switch right light plug pins "up", AM interfered.
- Switch left light plug pins "up", AM interfered.
- Switch right light plug pins "down", AM interfered.
- Unconnect left light, AM fine.

So effectively, it doesn't matter what way the cables are plugged in, nor which side light is plugged in... as soon as you have both lights plugged in, the AM is interferred with.

Interesting. The LED bulbs I ordered from eBay (w5w 194 5050 SMD canbus no error LED) had a problem that when I had one LED and one normal bulb in it was fine, but as soon as I put a second one in (no matter which bulb or which side) the MFD would display the "check number plate light". Didn't try the AM radio at the time...maybe I should?

Anyway, gave up on those and ordered some R-Dash ones that seemed to be error free...

Yeah I did. But my conclusion isn't that it's not the resistors. I mean, I have no method of determining which one it is. It's possible that the resistors are "in active" until the LEDs are plugged in and the circuit is complete etc.

You're right, I don't typically negotiate overseas deals... or trade many shares... or have an intercontinental jet!

Besides... we can't all be like you, splashing your excess cash on OEM parts! Not now that I have to pay a Carbon Tax anyways...

Things must be really tight at home if you don't even have excess $140 in your bank. Don't worry, you have 1 year to plan your financials wisely before the tax kicks in. Good luck!

We've sold this product for a long period of time, and we haven't ever met such kind of problem before. We're still finding out the solution.

We usually listen to PM radio in Taiwan, and it wouldn't interfere.

Could you please kindly let us know the range of AM radio you listen to? Like FM in Taiwan is around 80 to 149.
So we'll test it more precisely to solve this problem for you.
